ZLE 18" track setup

Anyone done an 18" tire setup for track use on the ZLE? Would prefer to stay with a square setup, same all the way around. Makes it easier on spares.

It looks like a 305/35-18 will be very close to the original ZLE front tire dimensions, with 295/35-18 not being much different. I've had good luck with the RE71R on some other cars but unfortunately that tire doesn't come in either of those sizes. I'd like to use something in that treadwear range. Ultimate stick is fun but I don't want to run through a set of tires every weekend in HPDE.

If anyone has done this what did you use for wheels? I'm not looking for a $10k wheel package, these will probably get bruised a bit going on and off the car frequently, into storage racks, etc.

Is there an offset that works both front and rear? If not that eliminates having the same size all around.

BC Forged has great 18” track wheel options and have done a number for ZL1 1LEs now. They know what specs you need. To go square you’ll need a 15mm spacer up front I think.

They run about $3000/set shipped and take 4-5 weeks from order to delivery iirc

18 may limit choices (and brake cooling!), 19 certainly has more options. Unless you're racing for $$ or lap times, there are plenty of tire choices at different price points.

MRR M716.. 1400? + $1600 in PS 4S.. good to drive to track and lay down some laps.. and then drive home or put back on trailer.. whichever floats your boat.

PS4S is not a good track tire, the grip doesn’t compare to an R comp once they get very hot, and when they do they will start to chunk apart if you’re putting down fast laps. They’re too expensive to waste this way and should be saved for street and canyons. There are not nearly as many 19” options for true R comps in ZLE sizes, and the ones available are a LOT more expensive than 18s in same widths. Best 19” R comp for money for ZL1 is the GY F1 3R, and new Hoosiers but $$$. R888R does not match grip performance of either

Best 18” option is a Pirelli DH take-off, usually $500 set, or Hoosier take-off. But take-off sick sizes are very limited in 19” because race cars use 18 not 19 (for a reason)

4S is such a downgrade for track tires compared to factory GY 3R tires. I don't think they are even R comps.

Super affordable 18" and 19" wheels, don't have to wait weeks to get and they are light weight. Ive been using them for years on my M3's and I know tons of Mustang and Camaro track rats like me using them.

Why not just run 305/30R19 RE-71r's on the stock 19's?

Thanks all. I did not realize the RE-71R came in the 305/30-19 size. I've used that tire before and liked it.

I want a square setup to be able to rotate the tires, and also so I can have a spare that can be used in any position. I realize that will mean giving up a little width in the back but a 305 will still be as much width as the other Camaro 6 models.

Can the ZLE front wheels be used on the back of the car? I don't know how the stock front wheel offset would work on the back. Would a spacer be required or would it already be too far out?

The Apex wheels look like a great option. Good value.

Just run the 19" 305 RE-71r's on front and rear, if you need to rotate just break them down and swap the tires on the wheels as you like I have been doing this with no issue on my 5th gen and now my 6th

You won't ever find a truly square set up that works, so forget about that idea.

Do you know what works? The stock wheels and tires.

I have been through quite a few different wheels and tires and guess what I just did? Bought a new set of G3R's for my stock 19's.

They aren't even Extreme Performance Summer. They're Max Performance Summer.
