Wheel centre for alignment?

I’ve had my alignment done a couple times now and it always seems the wheel is like 2degrees or so Left or Right of centre afterwards. The tech let’s me sit in the car and set the wheel and I can swear it’s straight but when I start driving it’s tracking straight until I dead centre the wheel.

I am currently in the same boat as you. Car will be going to a better alignment shop in the next week or so to correct this.

This can be very hard to get right. I sit in car holding wheel during alignment as tech adjusts toe /tie-rods, my shop is the best in LA, but every time when I pull out on street the wheel is always ~1-2 degrees left when going straight.

I think to get it perfect I have to drive it a few blocks then come back and have them adjust 2 degrees to right. At this point Id rather have it off by 1-2 degrees right just to break the pattern.

That being said alignment is perfect... car does not pull one way or other, if point it straight and let go it stays straight, I tip wheel slightly right and let go it keeps tracking right, if I tip it left and let go it keeps tracking left.

Yes this! I’ve made sure the wheel is centre and even lockout my arms holding 10 and 2 grips and it’s still 1-2 degrees to the left of centre but if left alone it tracks mostly straight (massive tires on these pull it but that’s another matter) just drives my OCD insane lol.

Same issue here! I noticed it after the alignment. Driving my OCD crazy!!

I had an E9x M3 before this and I recall having the same issue after alignment, even after repeated visits to the dealer - it was never right!

Yup this always seems to be the case, I just had SPL rear toe arms put on and new alignment and sat in the car as well to hold the wheel straight because it was slighty off after last alignment and it always annoyed me. Even with holding it straight it is ever so off to the right lol, but it drives straight and feel awesome.

What's important is that the wheel is centered and the alignment is done according to the roads you drive...

For example: If the wheel is centered and the alignment does not get set to account for the crown of the road (and you drive primarily two lane roads), you will always have the wheel turned very slightly to the left because you have to counter the crown of the road "pushing" the car toward the shoulder. This would typically go away on the highway in the left lane, and could actually become a situation where you might then have to turn it slightly to the right (depends on how the road is curved).

I've typically had really good results when the alignment tech is accounting for the kinds of roads I drive when the alignment is being dialed in.

Alignment is done with a truly flat road and driver in car in mind, as though I'll driving down the center of a race track. Whether I'm on the right side of crown, left side of crown, or center of road at the top of the crown, my wheel is always slightly tilted left 1-2 degrees. I think that's the situation every one here is talking about.

Not sure if you're referring to the alignment that was done or what I'm referring to. A correct alignment for the street (track would likely be different) is not done for a "truly flat road" since all roads have a crown to assist in water runoff.

If the wheel is always very slightly off as you mentioned, though, then it seems that something, somewhere is just a touch out of spec.

With my ZLE I dont get an alignment for driving on the right side of a crowned road, and I wouldn't do that if I didn't drive on the track.

I don't drive my ZL1 as a daily, or for long stretches on the freeway. When I drive in canyons I want it set up for turns, which are generally banked some towards the inside of the turn so it alternates.
