Saying Good Bye
So I have a question. I have my ZL1 convertible, hyper-blue about a year now. The only question is what do I trade into. I normally keep my cars around a year and it seems my only options are a M4 manual convertible with Sakhir orange interior and a carbon 65 corvette convertible which I am getting a great deal on. Both cars are about the same at around $1000 a month. Opinions would be welcomed. Thank You.

If you value handling and body/chassis composure, DO NOT look at the M3/4.
I currently have a 2016 M3 and it SUCKS. I had to go to coilover suspension to get good handling characteristics. In stock form , the rear-end is all over the place under heavy braking and when upset mid-corner. Its rebound tuning is AWFUL!! It also has a crappy traction/stability control, that is overly intrusive even in MDM mode. It fights you rather than working with you. It does a poor job of putting down the power, even with extreme performance tires. If you care about performance, you will be disappointed with the M4. The only performance advantage you would gain from going to the M4 from the ZL1 is the DCT tranny. The Ultimate Driving Machine, it IS NOT!! Last edited by TRZ06; 06-13-2018 at 06:11 PM. |

Agree with this. The new Shelby GT500 is the only logical move from here in this price range. Both cars you speak of will be downgrades in many areas. The M4 simply can't compare anywhere in my opinion and the Vette will be noticeably down on power.

Unless I go the Z06 route. Same hp and definitely a lot lighter. Although I looked at the 0-60 times and the Grand Sport is right there with the ZL1.

Z06 & ZL1 are dead even in comparison. Many YouTube videos available on the topic. Grand Sport would not even be a road race.

Go out and try a C7 Corvette. I have both a C7 Z06 and G6 ZL1, both have intakes and X pipes. They both run hard but the Z06 is a little bit quicker. And it's more nimble and you can just flick that thing through turns like it's nothing. The ZL1 is amazing, but the Vette IS an upgrade, don't let people deceive you.
Look at getting something like a GTR or possibly some AMG like an E63S or something. Not sure what price range you're sticking with. I wouldn't buy a Ford or SRT but that's just me. I would skip the M cars, they're not very impressive at this time. |

E63s is a little rich for my blood. Was looking at a C63s convertible which was really nice but to pay that much for a C class, just didn't make sense. Was close to $100,000.

The Z06, from the C5 and up are great handling cars with high limits, however the rear of the car has always been its Achilles heel. It likes to snap oversteer and although I have not driven the magnetic ride equipped ones, both my C5 and C6 Z06 would get a little unstable when upset mid corner. The rear-end body control could be better. I think this is just a side effect of its leaf spring suspension set-up. It is a handful at the limits Whereas the 1LE takes all the nasty out and lets you feel more confident and feels more stable near the limits. Very Porsche like. Chevy knocked it out of the park with the 1LE |

The vettes are faster feeling and have many features that the Camaro can't compete with (removable top, drop down pistol screen, etc), the Camaro is easier to drive fast and is less twitchy in the rear. I want both but alas, have to choose one. All in all I'd say get the GS or Z is you haven't owned one, they are freaking awesome rides. I tend to swap back and forth yearly too. You Sir have one of the best problems a person can face. CONGRATULATIONS

The corvette inteior & electronics are outdated. The gauges are kool though. I am not a big guy & a Vette as a daily driver? Hell no. Corvettes also lease horribly. Imagine running errands in a corvette. GM Financial does not even offer leasing programs for Corvette. US Bank offers Gold Chains to its Corvette Customers who lease.
