Exclamation Left my key fob in pants as I put them to wash!!!!

Sooo I have a friend in his 1LE coming over so we can detail his car and I was looking for my key so I can install my MSD wires and move it out of the way and I couldn’t find it, then started to wonder why is my dryer making this thumping noise and would you look at that..... I found my key fob 😢 . I pushed lock on my car and it seems to work!!!!!!! I haven’t started the car yet as I’m going to install the wires but will update if it works still. Highly advise to not do what I did !! But if it works at least that clears some curious minds out their.

Washed mine a few times, they always work so far, open it up and stick it in rice for an afternoon.

Yeah I've done it quite a few times with the vette and at least twice with the 1LE. They've always worked (but I wouldn't count on it always haha)

Yes definitely glad I have two sets but just Incase I truly lose one I have to make sure they all work but yes everything has worked just fine, I didn’t have to put it in a bowl of rice as my clothes were done drying when I found it lol, extremely hot key when I found it but other then that all is well!

so the key fob can go in the washer and work flawlessly. Yet, I park in front of Sheetz and can't get the damn thing to work. oh joy.

The key fobs are fairly well-sealed (the internals). Mine got washed and was in for a good 15 mins.. insides were bone dry.

The new fobs have a o-ring seal on them, unless the water is under pressure they should stay dry on the inside.

There is only so much sealing they can do. The pcb is probably coated in epoxy, but the battery contacts and contacts for the microswitches will still be open to moisture. I would take it apart as far as you can, shake it, then use a hair dryer on low. That will dry it quicker than rice. The problem with rice is the longer that any metal is exposed to moisture, the more it corrodes. Soapy water is typically more conductive than tap water (unless you already have very salty water), and corrosion is an electrical process. So washing machine worse than dropping it in a puddle.

Yeah i didn’t Usenet rice I honestly found it when it was in my dryer already, clothes were already dried so it was pretty hot when I grabbed it, seems like the dryer sucked out all the water it had and perfect, pretty crazy that it still works when being in washer for over an hour and dryer for about an hour
