Foam Cannon vs. Foam Gun vs. Man

Many people do not like these devices and that is fine. Many people love these devices and that is also fine. Most people can't use these device for whatever reasons and that sucks....

But at the end of the day we have options. I previously used a foam gun and kind of got sick of all the soak basically falling off the car before I actually washed it. I was doing 1/2 the car at a time to make sure the soap suds remained.

For Christmas my bride got me a better power washer, so I moved into the foam cannon world. Yup I need to dial in the soap vs. water, but the questions is...

Which do you use?
- Foam Gun
- Foam Cannon
- Neither

After looking at the options form the big guys (chemicalGuys, Adams, etc) I found a better foam Cannon for $10 cheaper. via SoCal Wax Shop Speedy Super Foamer: http://bit.ly/2jXTn2P

I have both cannon and gun. The cannon with a gas pressure washer will produce that thick, shaving cream foam. The gun with a hose creates bathtub style bubbles. The cannon is just fun. I let neighbor kids foam my car. They love it and fight over who is next.

I like to use the gun when I don't want noise from the pressure washer. I like the gun for "Priming the mitt" as I wash my car.

But, for a naked foam party with the Old Lady, you have to use the gun!

ok, stupid question...so after you coat the car with soap, do you then use a microfiber "sponge" to actually wash the car?

You can.

You can also rinse the foam off and blow it dry for a "no touch" wash.

You can foam it up, rinse off the foam, and then do a rinseless wash with towels or mitts.

You can use the gun to "prime the mitt" and spray foam just ahead of the mitt as you wipe.

The foam cannon is just an extra blast of surfactants to release dirt from the surface of your vehicle.

Interesting, I have a gas Honda 3100 PSI power washer, and a Vert. I was concerned the PW was too strong for the car, especially the top, but I'm wondering if a canon will step-down the velocity of the water to the point that it will make harmless suds. . . and then just PW them off, for a touchless wash. Costco has this cannon,

I may just have to try it. . . .

Yes, a cannon setup changes the power to much less, it uses the power to make suds, not blast your car.

I use this foam gun and it is much cheaper than CG or Adams and works just as well if you are going to be hooking it to a hose.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you run a bottle of clean water through your foam cannon or foam gun after EVERY USE! It will clog after 3-4 uses if you don't.

The screen that causes the foaming will clog up with hard water deposits and soap deposits. It also helps to periodically run CLR through the cannon or gun.

You can buy replacement screens and O-rings for your cannon for $15.

I have both a foam cannon and a foam gun. I much prefer using the foam gun because I find it easier to maneuver around the car. I can also use the gun in my garage and not worry about getting foam all over the place. The cannon's reliance on a power washer really makes a large wash area a necessity.

In reality, it's only the foam in direct contact with the paint that does the work. I think a lot of the foam from the cannon runs off the car without ever contacting the paint and is just wasted.

Does a cannon really do much cleaning, or is it just a way to get foaming suds on the car? I presume I'd have to use a mitt or MF towel to actually clean the car before rinsing, but if I can get away with touchless, even better. . .

The foam from a cannon is designed to dwell on the surface for a number of minutes to loosen soil.

Rinsing after dwell time removes as much dirt as possible before you actually touch the car, significantly reducing chances of wash induced micro marring.

Lots of good advice here for maintenance of your cannon.

I prefer the waterless wash method. Since it is not my everyday car, I don't accumulate much dirt and I don't drive it in the rain. Once I get CQuartz applied in a few weeks, I'm hoping to be able to just hose it off, dry and go.

I love my foam cannon and been using it for the last couple of months now. I was going to buy an expensive one but I figured I would try to save some money and buy the least expensive one I could find on eBay. I made a little video on my results if you want to check it out. Mainly people on a budget will benefit from my videos as I try to do videos for them or just for people that like to save a little money.

I have a foam gun and like it a lot. I have considered getting a foam cannon as I have a pressure washer handy. The cost has kept me using my foam gun instead. Would like to try one, but don't know if it would really be that helpful.
