Passengers mirror scraped to clear coat!! Help!

I walked out from work to the parkig deck to discover my passenger mirror have a huge gash on it down to the clear coat..would a paint and body shop be the place to go to fix that...or would color matching my white paint with a duplicolor scratch paint be better?

You could always try the touch up first and have it painted if you're not satisfied with the touch up. It really depends on how wide the scratch is and how careful you are with the touch up paint. Since it's white you have a better chance of making it blend in than with other colors. A Langka kit might even help smooth it out.

Probably need pics before I can advise. Dr Colorchip is the best color matching option.

Here's the replacement
https://www.thatgmpartsguy.com/oem-p...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

for $180.

Here's my install DIY:

I respectfully disagree. I find white and black to be the hardest colors to find matching paint.

White and silver, but yeah.

And... down to the clear Coat? Isn’t the clear like, the top layer or what am I missing here?

My guess is that he meant through the paint to the plastic. If the plastic is gouged, probably need a new mirror to look perfect.

A picture would help. Generally speaking though, for a deep scratch, a repaint will always look better then touch-up.

If your using Dr. Colorchip on a deep scratch, forget the instructions that come with it. It will take several layers to fill.

You can get to 95% new looking, but from certain angles in direct sunlight, it will still be noticeable, but since your car is white, it will be less noticeable than it would on a darker color.

Options are:

Dr. Colorchip and see if you can deal with the finished repair $60

Repaint of mirror $150

New mirror + paint job $325 installed yourself. 1 hr labor to install at body shop.

Yeah, that needs repaint as it will need some body filler and sanding to look right again.
