Unhappy Another Mosaic Paint Problem

This it my first time posting here. Been snooping around here for a while. Finally joined. Totally in love with the camaro!! Totally love everyone on this forum!! Please forgive me if i get a bit long winded. I purchased my 2016 camaro ss vert in mosaic black a few days before the new year on what was an overcast day. About a week or so later, I noticed in the sun what looked like a large brownish patch at the back end of the car. Its on the tonneau cover on both sides. Upon further inspection there is paint missing behind the door handles and several other areas as well. I took the car to the dealer where I purchased to show the salesperson. The body shop manager as well as the service manager joined in as well. All three agreed that this was surely an issue that needs to be addressed. They left it up to me whether I wanted to leave it that way, or have everything that needed to be addressed fixed. They were really great about this and told me to take my time in making a decision as this all falls under warranty. Well, I finally decided that I would have what I thought was the worst and most noticeable part painted. The tonneau cover. I dropped the car off last week. They painted just the tonneau cover and now the cover looks so good, that it made the rest of the car look really bad. It literally brings out all of the badly painted parts of the car. Front to back. Now, they're saying that the only way to truly make the car look good is to paint the entire car. I am currently waiting to hear back from them as they have to have a GM rep take a look at it. I truly appreciate everything the dealership has done up to this point. Just praying GM does the right thing if they want to keep this loyal costumer. I've literally been sick to my stomach since yesterday. I've never been through anything like this before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mosaic Black, 2/SS, 10/15 born on date here...few spots on the vehicle. Noticed after I purchased.
Did not notice till weeks after the fact.
Too, too many posts here about paint that I have looked beyond even attempting to rectify.
Why?
Too many let downs by the others that have posted about it.
Too, too much aggravation to lose any sleep over dealing w/GM to correct.
I see beyond it all to accept that I purchased a kick ass car with just a few "spots" that, are not that noticeable to the naked eye when viewing, to lose a never ending battle over.
My 2 cents worth...but, I feel your pain.

I have a standard black 2017 2SS...

I had other issues with the clear coat, But it resulted in half the car being repainted (quarter panels, roof, a-pillars, trunk lid and spoiler)... They tried to apply their xzilon bs coating and caused scratches. So they tried to buff it out 4 times but bringing so much attention to the paint and I think thinning it out so much. I have been able to find more and more defects each time I look at the car.

In all there has been 6 visits and 7 attempts at fixing paint problems... 1: Repaint. 2: wet sand and buff out imperfections. 3: Buff and apply xzilon. 4: buff out scratches. 5: buff out more scratches 6: buff out more scratches, I refused to take car so they buffed it again (7th).

The service manager emailed me saying they want to try to buff it out again but in order to do so, I have to sign a waiver releasing them of liability if I find any other imperfections or scratches that they caused... So, I went to GM hoping that they would help with sorting out what to do and they offered to start a buy back process so I agreed.

Since I don't drive the car much (i daily drive an exploder) I have the luxury of marking every imperfection in the paint I found since buffing the car so much has thinned it enough to where it's easy to see... I'm on 62 contaminants/smudges/run marks and craters so far with 40 of them just on the roof alone. Just on the repainted pieces except for the scratches on the back bumper from when they took off the SS emblem and over spray on the door.

My adjuster guy at GM got everything from the dealership last week and has been lagging all this week at getting back to me with the outcome.

I just got word that they are going to paint the entire car. Its going to be several weeks before I get the car back too. Its not my choice, but here in the so called "Garden State" the customer has to give the dealer the opportunity to make things right before a buyback would ever be considered. Unless of course its a safety matter that impairs the vehicles operation.

You'll end up with an overall much better paint job than what GM is sending these cars out with.

I had the front clip of my SIM repainted due blotchy uneven paint from the factory. What a difference.

Sixgensix- Glad to hear your cars issue was resolved to your satisfaction. I agree with you about the paint being better than factory. I've been reassured by chevy that should be the outcome here as well. fingers crossed.

At least your dealership recognized your problem. My original dealership dismissed me and told me my issue was with GM and not them. The GM rep who only spoke through the service manager told me to pound sand. I went to another dealership who saw my issue and that service manager said he would try to get me a buy back on my car. Well the GM rep told him that is not happening and told the service manager to tell me that my paint meets spec. I asked numerous times to speak to the rep in person, but the spineless guy never would.

So, I got the result... buy back/exchange declined because only the cars value is affected, not it's drivability or safety. Exactly how they worded it

Bambam2ss- Sorry to hear that. GM likes to play hardball for sure. They'll never really admit to defect... unless of course the government steps in and makes them if its a safety issue.lol I hope they'll at least offer to repair it. I know thats probably what you don't want.

Yeah, it's not easy.
I am only here for so long on this earth to let a little bit of paint piss me off.
My next one is an Aston Martin...where they care more about the "little things" than GM ever would.

They offered to repair it, But it will be the 8th time they tried to fix it...

I started the process to file for arbitration with the BBB and sent an inquiry email to the lemon law attorney I used last year.

Seems like this issue is much more apparent with black cars?
