Hood opened to second latch while driving

While entering the freeway today and accelerating modestly on an onramp, I went over a bump in the pavement, nothing too harsh and not a pothole, and my hood unlatched and popped up an inch or two to the safety latch. WTF????

This scared the crap out of me. I've since looked at the mechanism and all looks fine but all is definitely not fine.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there an adjustment that can/should be made? Of course I can bring it to the dealer under warranty but I never want to leave my cars in someone else's care.

Given when the door release is in this car, are you sure you didn't snag it with your foot or leg?

Good thought there, but definitely not.

Ouch!! I've seen 2 cars at the track lose hoods. Get it checked before it shatters the windshield.

I saw it happen on a freeway!!! The guy thought quick though, he rolled down his window, stuck his head out to see forward and pulled off the road. I agree, have the dealer check it out. It's possible that it wasn't latched all the way, but it's also possible that the latch doesn't close all the way or something.

I've found that you really gotta slam this hood to get it to close. I thought I had closed it, but I always check and it lifted to the safety latch.

My gen5 always was mostly gravity when I closed it.

Did it appear closed when this happened to you? Did you lift it from the heat extractor since the front appeared flush?
