Talking Camaro SS vs German cars

Had a chance to run with Audi club at Grattan raceway - it was for Advanced drivers/Instructor only day, so there were about 40 drivers total, and divided into two run groups = ton of track time!
It was great fun, playing with some of great cars from Germany.

Yes, my car is 'regular' SS, not 1LE or ZL1, but it was still very competitive, comparing to other German drivers.
(I inserted music because first part of the video doesn't have any sound)

Awesome!!! You took out pretty much everything haha. What settings did you have your steering and suspension on?

Thanks for sharing. That looked like a lot of fun. What tire set up are you running? Did anyone pass you? (note I skipped over the music as I wanted to hear the LT1 so I didn't watch the whole thing). It looked like you held your own through the curves and no one could hang with you on the straights (or maybe they all waved you by because they were holding you back in the curves). Either way or both - its nice so see this gen 6 platform get the job done.

You are a good set of tires away from being a legend!

Thanks. I run in track mode for everything with traction control off. (Holding the button down)

Glad you liked it.
Tires: 255 / 285 Hankook RS3 on stock wheels
When I'm done with these, I'm going with 285 square RE71R on Apex 19" wheels.
Yeah, when I'm watching other's video, i prefer to listen to engine note than music, but this time I had no sound for first part so had to put in music.

I didn't get passed by anyone, at least in my group, except when I just pulled out and was warming up. Even then, it was modded gen 5 Camaro, and after a few laps of playing cat and mouse, he let me pass again. He was pretty fast too.

This car can definitely get the job done.

Oh,,,, I don't know about legend.... I've done track days enough to know there will always be someone faster than I'm. That person just didn't show up that day. Thanks for the complement though.

I would love to try some real slicks on this car (like Hoosiers) but I don't want to deal with trailering tires like I used to with other car - enjoying this arrive and drive.

Glad you had some fun on Friday! Do you happen to know what kind of lap times you were doing?

We got lucky on Saturday, the rain held off until the very end, a few sprinkles started as the last group was coming into the pit at 5:30. Today was a wash and I packed it in after breakfast.

Great video Jay. You are fun to watch and it doesn't
look like anything could get past you!

I can't wait to get out on the 12th! 500+ more miles and
I'm good to go after I change the engine oil and brake fluid.
Should be great fun!

Thanks for lunch too! Who knew Korean BBQ was so good!
Next time we buy!

See you soon.

Becky

Those guys with german cars are gonna ban you from driving with them because a car that costs 1/2 as much isn't supposed to beat them. Good driving.

Hey Ryan, good to hear you could at least get one day of fun. Lap time wise, I was no where near my best time - track was cold so I blame the temp. (I need something to blame. Lol) My best time of the day was 1:31.59. (Last year's best in this car was 1:29.88)

Glad you liked the video Becky. No one passed me that day, but I would have VERY hard time keeping up with you in your new toy - I'm not just saying it. You are a pretty fast driver, and you driving your new ZL1 will humiliate quite a lot of guys on track. Just be nice to us, boys.

Also glad you liked Korean BBQ. Would love to get together again for lunch/dinner with you guys.
I'm very excited for 12th too. If I don't see you before that, I'll definitely see you at Grattan!

Don't worry... I'll sign up with some other names...
Seriously, those guys were super cool and organized event very well. I would love to go back to track with these guys.

It was just great to know this 'cheaper American muscle car' could play well with those cars that are considered to be track focused pure bred sports cars.

The weather was cold, and no sun meant the track stayed cold too. I wouldn't be surprised if that significantly contributed to your lap time.

I have to say, the Audi club were super nice. Great group of guys, relaxed but structured. I can see why so many people sign up for their event. There was a big mix of cars. Yes lots of German cars as expected, a few British, and a handful of domestics too.
