Watch out for Motorcycles!

If you really want to enjoy it, don't go on a weekend.

Hit up the dragon and skyway loop. Start shortly after Dawn, early morning there will be very little of any traffic. As it gets later there will be lots more traffic.

A group of our Indy NexGen Camaro peeps have now gone 2 years in a row and love it, though they hit it toward the Fall of the year with the Northern Tennessee Hot Rod Club. They usually get rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in Sweetwater, TN. They say it's an enjoyable ride.

I went to part of it in Virginia, crazy views of mountains and crazy turns, you have to be careful on the part I went to, you are high up and nothing stopping you after you go through the guardrail. I just happened to go while on vacation and was in my truck at the time.

I think you're thinking of the Blue Ridge Parkway amigo, the Dragon runs between NC and TN

OP, if you've never been do it, its so much fun, I love it up there. I've only been on my motorcycle, never in a car, but I've probably ridden it 20 times. The dragon itself is more of an event than a spirited drive, especially on the weekend, but you'll see tons of cool cars and bikes, get to meet people at the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort and Killboy store across the street and you'll get the chance to buy sweet pics of your Camaro. IMO the Skyway is a more spirited drive with less traffic....but be very careful because the State Patrol works both roads hard and they'll write you for everything. Be safe!

We started out on the Maryville side and then drove to the Start in NC and then back. It was fun. I saw cops on 4 different portions. So keep the speed close to the posted 35. And have fun.

Drive up on HWY28 (Hellbender/Moonshiner 28), through the Fontana Dam area. Be sure to stop at the dam, it is awesome! Take 28 to the end in NC, it intersects with 29 (The Dragon, make a right onto 29, that is the beginning, takes you into TN. Just drive slow and have fun, watch out for the "crazies" on the sport bikes and sports cars that drive way too fast. Be careful, it is usually loaded with State Troopers and LEO's on the sides, especially the weather is going to gorgeous there this weekend. There is a nice pull off towards the end on the TN side. At the beginning there are big gift shops/rest areas that are worth a look, some cool merchandise there. Also while in the Fontana Dam area, stop in the Pit Stop for a quick bite/drink and some good Dragon merchandise.

Wish my car wasn't in the shop at the dealer this weekend for transmission issues, otherwise I would meet you up there. Maybe another time.

Go up around Blood mountain in north georgia. I wouldn't say it's as intense as the dragon, but it is still a very fun drive. Around richard russell scenic highway, wolf pen gap, etc.

I actually preferred the roads going to the Dragon from Franklin NC, route 28. That road was awesome! The Dragon is a work out, then you turn around and do it again! The cops watch it too. People try to act like it's an HPDE event, so beware.

I prefer the Cherohala skyway (143 out of Robbinsville) it's much more flowing and during the week law enforcement is about non existent..... oh and its brand new pavement as of last fall!!!!!!!

The Dragon's super tight corners and ridiculously low speed limit/ zealous law enforcement makes it no more than a parade now. (not to mention all the idiots who cant ride or drive and insist on crossing the double yellow and crashing into people trying to do it right)

. i started going to the dragon in the mid 80's and the speed limit then was 55 and Pete was making kick ass sandwiches and selling race gas..... .

i took it as a personal challenge to achieve 55 for the entire run LOL!

Once they started selling t shirts advertising the road it was finished as far as i'm concerned.

if you really want to get a good run through the Dragon now you have to do it at night when all the pirates are drinking beer and the police are gone. (watch out for wildlife)

I still ride that area a couple of times a year but there are much better roads to have fun on...without all the police.... Like the 28 run down to Franklin.... get out your map, look for some squiggly lines and do some exploring. you wont be disappointed. :-)

If I remember correctly, for an extended run you should do the Devil's Triangle. It should encompass the tail of the dragon. I've done it a few years with my old cobalt SS group. Great time but you have to be mindful of other drivers and riders cheating over the line. Awesome experience nontheless
