Voided warranty/Recalls
So this topic just came up on my other post so I wanted to start a new thread about it. If I void my warranty by modifying the vehicle, am I still eligible for any recalls, for example, if they fix the issue with the M6's that address the timing being cut, like a ECM update, would I still be eligible to get this fixed at the dealership. No one knows if this will even be fixed so this is just a example, with wishful thinking.

I think I am telling you right. Only the parts of the car that your mods would effect are voided. So, if you put a cam in it and blew the engine, no warranty. If your a/c went out you should be fine. As long as they can not tie the failure to your mods you are good. As far as recalls these are known defects and should be covered regardless.

Yes, recalls Will still be done. They want the car safe for the public, not so much you.

When you boil it down, a warranty is a marketing expense by the MFGR intended to entice you to make a purchase. Warranty has nothing to do with Safety recalls, which are regulatory issues.
That said, you could have an issue if you take your modded ride in for an ECM/TCM update and it doesn't play nice with your mods. The undriveable car would be your problem. So if it comes to pass and they do offer an ECM update as a safety recall, then remove your mods first. Then do the update, then put back on the mods and re-tune. |

To start, you should realize by now the topic of warranty applicability is highly subjective and will vary dealer to dealer, and even within each dealer, person to person sometimes. The best or most accurate response here may not even apply to you or your situation.
That said, it will likely depend on your relationship with the dealer and what all you have done to your car. If you've done every mod imaginable and you roll in to the dealership vibrating the tools off the walls with huge cam lope, they will likely be apprehensive to do anything to your car for fear whatever they do will impact your car's performance (interfering with aftermarket items) and have you blaming them for that. If you have just an intake for example, they probably wouldn't even know that to begin with, and even if they did, it shouldn't be a big deal - especially if the fix has nothing to do with the mod. On the other hand, you will want to understand the impact of whatever fix they are going to apply as it pertains to your mods. You will want to be aware of the exact same thing. Will the recall item impact what you've done. An ECM refresh wiping a tune for example.
