SS (V8) 1LE confirmation?

Hi everyone,

I'm on the verge of purchasing the 1SS 1LE (extremely tuff call between a GT350 and the Camaro - 70% track use) and was wondering if any current owners can comment. While I did find some threads that related directly to my quesitons, I'm still not 100% and was wondering if someone can confirm?

1 - So when the system rev matches for down shifts, does it match the RPM for the gear your going into perfectly, or does it just do a "generic" general blip? ie - does the system know the exact RPM for the next gear and rev to that?

Also, does it rev match for up shifts?

2 - In particular with the SS models, whenever you select the 1LE package, you are not allowed to get the automatic transmission, is this correct?

3 - I keep seeing over and over that you cannot select the 2SS trim with the 1LE package (only 1SS), but on Chevy's website you can select 2SS. Can you indeed only use the 1SS trim with 1LE??

Many thanks for any clarification!

1. The system is extremely good at rev matching throttle blips. Its not just a generic blip. It senses what gear youre putting the shifter into and gives the perfect amount of gas at the perfect time to rev match perfectly. I seriously doubt any human could match its precision consistently. Its still more fun to do it yourself though. The good news there is that you can just leave it off if you want to do it yourself.

2. No automatic transmission is available on the SS 1LE

3. You can now get a 2SS 1LE. You didnt use to be able to. Theres not too many 2SS 1LE cars out there though. Look into what youre paying for with the 2SS package on a 1LE car though. If I remember correctly it doesnt change that much other than the stereo.

1. Revmatch works likely better than any human can consistently perform the function on up and downshift. It does indeed also match the RPM for the given gear

2. No auto for the 1LE (yet)

3. You can get the 2SS package for the 1LE 2018 and up model year

I forgot. It does not rev match for upshifts. Is that even a thing? Whenever I upshift it seems to smoothly go into the gear without any bliping of the throttle being necessary.

It does have a mode where you dont have to lift the throttle while upshifting. Google no lift shift mode.

1. Rev match does a good job matching incoming gear and RPM. Not just a blip - I've not used it on a track but on spirited driving where I'm aggressively braking and downshifting. I love it. No match on up shifts (no real need)

1. No auto on the 1LE is correct.

2. You can get a 2SS 1LE in 2018 (I have one - love it). You couldn't get one in 2017MY - 1SS only.

The system knows the correct RPM for the gear you select and blips/holds at that RPM. It will also hold RPM's on up shift if you shift slowly. It also has flat shift.

2019 model year adds the auto option to the 1LE.

Haha, I saw that too. It seems we disagree on the rev matching for upshifts though.

I never hear or feel any intervention on an upshift with auto rev matching on. It seems the same on an upshift whether I have the system on or off.

I think it technically does on the upshift as well. If you hit the clutch, shift up, then wait a few seconds before releasing the clutch it should hold the correct RPMs so long as the time/minimum RPM/minimum speed conditions aren't met. It's not a blip, but it's still "matching" revs IIRC.

Thanks. Ill try it out and see. I guess I dont shift slowly enough to tell the difference without looking for it.

Yeah, I usually don't either but noticed the RPMs seemed to hang a little more at regular street speeds when rev match is turned on and screws up my shift timing a little vs. having it off. I'm thinking it's trying to keep initial gear speed until you actually move the shifter? Doesn't seem to be noticeable on the track when you're shifting at higher RPMs, though.

It DOES match on up shifts.

Where did you see that? AFAIK all 1LEs are manual only.

If youre purchasing largely for track duty plus some dd then 1ss 1le is a no brainer choice over gt350.
It is cheaper and faster! It has much better and more sophisticated driver aids like the functions youve asked about plus PTM modes.
It has no questions asked track warranty.

Gt350 is a nice car but overpriced imo (in comparison) and based on my buddy's first hand experience the car did not stand up to frequent track use reliability wise. He had valve seal issues puking oil twice and oil pan issues due to heat (apparently it is plastic?). Thats first hand info based on one car only, so to be fair i dont know how they do in a larger statistical number and ive done zero research in this regard. So take my comments appropriately.

GT350R seems a completely different deal and bullet proof but even more money and ZL1 kicks its ass for much less $.

In any case, happy shopping!
