Missing Mechanical key - programming new

Hi Guys
I just bought preowned 2017 convertible from Hendricks. I got just one 5 button key so I ordered 6 button. When I wanted to program key I took mechanical key and tried to get to programing mode but key is not working with car.

Is there any way how to program new key without mechanical key?

Do you guys know how much would be to cut new key if I don't have one?

If the mechanical key does not work in the door I think you have no choice but going to the dealer for a new one. But you don't have get spares from them.
You can find new unprorogrammed key fobs on Ebay. One without the top control should be about 40 or 50 bucks, not sure about the ones for a convertible. Look at page 33-35 in the 2017 owners manual for programming instructions. The instructions are different to program additional keys if you have one programmed key or you have 2 programmed keys available.
I wanted a spare, so I bought a non convertible key on Ebay, programmed it myself and had the blank key cut by a local locksmith for 25 bucks. I took the battery out of the spare and keep it hidden in the car for emergencies. If I ever get stuck without my key I can use the MyChevy app to unlock the car, then put the hidden key in the rear cup holder to start it.

I have a programmed key from a 2017 2ss. I want to program it for use as a third key for my 2018 2ss. I do have 2 keys for the 2018 but was unable to do so. What is the trick? Do you have to unprogram the 2017 key first and then reprogram it? Any help appreciated.

That's a very good question. Can a used fob be reprogrammed to a different vehicle?

I believe it can be. There are two methods to programming keys. One is to "add" a key to an existing key, or set of keys and the other method is to erase all keys and reprogram them to the car. It's the actual hard key that is required to program.

Just be careful and make sure you "exit" programming mode before you start your car. It does some strange, scary things if you don't.
