Tire Pressure Readout Accuracy?
Anybody else wonder how accurate the dash readout is?
My car read 36 front left, 37 front right, 35 for both rears after warming up. Decided to go fill them up so that they were equal. Filled them up to 38 and when I got back in the car the readout still read the same. The only thing that changed after driving a while was 37 for both fronts and 35 for both rears. Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy in their car? |

It's pretty accurate, I check it against my handheld gauge for autocross and its always spot on.

Hmm, perhaps the gauge I was using at the air pump wasn't accurate then.

Also dont forget that temperature can play a big part in your tire pressure. Your pressure can and will change some when it warms up and cools off.

I use a cheap digital slime brand one from Walmart that I keep in the car. It's always been spot on with the TPMS. They will vary, from tire to tire, but they stay within 1PSI of each other typically.

I have use the Michelin digital tire gauge and it's fine. However, an racer friend showed me a much better way, if you use one of the speed race gauges that has the button to let out air..... it's a perfect way to do your tires that I never really thought of. So here's what you do:
Go fill from a gas station and put in much more than you need; like 40 lbs.....then put the gauge on it and press the button and come down through short bursts to exactly where you want it ....no more filling , than checking , them filling /checking , you can do your wheels in half the time, no more bending over a bunch of times! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Please no comments about the price, what I can make procedures much easier, I don't care about the money… LOL..you certainly may feel differently. |

The only problem is that my "good" gauge, that my uncle (who was THE car guy in the family) gave to me isn't accurate. I always thought it was my best, most accurate one, but it's the one that read 38 when the Camaro read only 32!

Close enough, I get mine filled to 36 and they read 34.

I check my tire pressure using a professional tire gauge. The TPMS readout is always within 1psi of the tire gauge.
