Option Parts

I've never ordered accessories after the fact for a car before and today I decided to take a look at the prices in the parts store vs the prices when building the car. Am I missing something? Why is it so different? If anything it should be cheaper if you chose it as part of your build because you are replacing the stock piece, not the reverse?

A few examples

Black Bow Ties
With Car - $145
Parts - $95

6 Piston Brembos
With Car - $3,175
Parts - $3,000
To clarify this - The standard brembos are $2,000 for parts. If I'm removing those, I'm paying $5,000 for the 6 piston if i added it to the car at build.

Knee Pads
With Car - $350
Parts - $325

The list goes on and on, but I think you get the point. Can anyone explain this to me please?

Sure, I was going to say that I realize it doesn't include labor in the post but that's some expensive labor. The same or similar labor goes into to assembling the car the first time. If you're already putting one part on, it doesn't matter if its one color or another, the labor does not increase

Your car is always built with the original part. The dealer installs the add-on(s) you choose and you keep the original part. You will always buy both parts, the difference is the dealer labor. Options like MRC and NPP are factory installed however and they are not available as aftermarket.

Yes! Thank you, Hadkins. That is what I was looking for and what I was assuming because it was all that made sense. Still seems like a shame. What a waste of money and parts to pay for things twice and have parts built that aren't needed or wanted.

Does anyone else think the Black Bow Ties should be standard and you can pay for the gold ones if you want them? :-)

Black will always be an option as the gold is the Chevy corporate standard on all their cars.

I believe the question was "does anyone THINK they SHOULD be standard"...not "does anyone think GM will ACTUALLY care what we think and make them standard".
