Questions for 2016 Camaro owners.
Alright, I'm a 21 year old from Ohio. I have a few questions for the people who own a 2016 Camaro. LT-2LT or even the SS owners. I currently own a 2012 Chevy Cruze 1LT to start off, these are more or less a future based questions. After college I plan on purchasing, 2-3 years. (Im more of a future thinker).
1. 1LT or 2LT? All owners. Well, when i plan to purchasing, Im not sure, (now mind you I'm a cheap person) if the 1LT will fulfill my needs. Is the blind spot and cross traffic alert really worth it? I use the trick i found online when it comes to mirrors, and in many 5th Gen Camaro's i used it and i can see almost anything around the car. (Uncle owned a 5th Gen). 2. Turbo 4 or V6? I know the Turbo 4s are not out. I believe that GM stopped production of the 4s. Gas milage? Insurance? Gas milage: Like i stated above, I'm a cheap ass. Do you think there will be a BIG difference in gas milage? Insurance: I pay $70 for insurance through SafeCo, full coverage for the Cruze. How much do you guys pay for insurance? Does insurance for a sports car really go down due to age? 3. Reliability: I plan on buying the Camaro as daily driver. For anyone who owns a Camaro would you say they're just like every other car or do sports cars tend to not last as long as other cars? (I always keep tabs on my car, its always getting its recommended care, I wax my car ALOT doesn't help i live here in OHIO ) Im not a mechanic, I'm a information technology student. 4. Road noise: Would you say the 2016 Camaro is pretty quiet in the cabin? relative to the Cruze interior quietness? (I listen to music all the time so i guess it doesn't matter but still to ask). 5. Better to buy a sports car like the Camaro New or Used? I have the GM discount, but I'm cheap. I heard it may not be a good idea not to buy one used because the owners before you could have done damage by red lining the car all the time and might decrease the longevity of the car for you. 6. Comfort? does the 2016 have a noticeable ride quality difference compared to the 5th gen? Hell is it better than the Cruze? (Here in Ohio every 2016 Camaro is purchased insanely fast so i can't never get the chance to test one). 7. Camaros in the snow? does the Ice/Snow mode actually do anything different in the snow? Are the standard 20 Inch RS tires good in the snow? 8. The 8 Speed Auto Transmission: Okay, i know i don't want to hear (Its a Camaro get a manual s**t. I prefer automatics especially for a daily driver car, maybe for a play toy car, but as for a daily thats my choice). But is the 8Speed a really good transmission? I HATE the transmission in the Cruze it bucks, its lazy on shifting, its the first transmission that scares me that its going to drop out of the car, its complete garbage just like the seats in the Cruze they're also awful on trips. Do you guys feel bucks or feel like its lazy? I'm not performance driver, but i like to have fun when i can . Ive loved Camaro's ever since the concept of the 5th gen. I LOVE the small windows, the style. I like the new Mustang but I'm sticking with the Chevrolet group. Also, why am i going from a 4 door to a 2 door for the styling? Not just that, I'm not a taxi, Its 90% of the time, just me in the Cruze so my back doors are never used, its a waste of wax lmao. Id like to hear Educated opinions and questions thank you

If you've never driven a rear wheel drive car in the snow, you'll be in for a nice learning experience. I'd consider this aspect of the car the #1 priority if you drive in an area that gets snow and this is your daily driver. It's way more important than anything else in your list.
I've driven my 3rd and 4th gen camaros in blizzards, heavy snow, light snow, ice.. and passengers have literally been scared for their lives. You're white knuckled and YOU WILL GET STUCK eventually, hopefully just in your driveway. edit: i've daily driven in eastern PA for the 3rd and 4th gen. |

Ohhh I have driven a few rear wheel drive cars in the snow, my friend Jarrod had a 95 camaro that we took to school, only big issue was it had summer tires at first but that wasn't fun! but after normal tires, no issues for me or him, loved it! (It was Camaro so i had to drive it once in a while! Also, My old Chevy Tracker my first car was also rear wheel drive never used the 4 wheel drive in it because i was pretty confident in my driving. I know thats not the same as a sports car, but it kind of counts!

Thank you for you're opinion! I didn't think that chains would fit under a Camaro especially how low they are.

You might enjoy the amenities of the 2LT being in an area that gets really cold and has hot summers. I dont think they are available on the 1LT even as options.
In socal you dont really have much use for heated seats/stearing wheels mirrors etc. Edit: they tell you not to use chains on the 20" wheels. |

1. No, the damn blind spot monitoring gets set off when there is dew on the car, road spray, rain, pretty much anything. It's truly annoying AF.
2. It would honestly be better if you drove both and made the choice yourself, or at least wait for more info to come out. Oh, and I pay $135ish a month for full coverage, and I am only 24. 3. Take care of your car and almost anything will last. 4. It is fairly quiet in the cabin. I usually have music going, or I am just listening to the roar of the engine..so... I also came from a Cruze, it's at least as good, and would likely be better with some nicer tires. 5. If you can afford new, do it, but only if you plan to keep the car a long time. It's nice to have the warranty, and it's a great feeling knowing the car has been yours from the start. 6. Ride quality: That's a tough one. The magnetic ride control is certainly nice, I didn't like the stock suspension much, but of course this is still a sports car. It does take some getting used to from the Cruze, but it's not bad. My Cruze had an extremely smooth ride, and my Camaro has a nice ride, but the suspension is more sport tuned. 7. GET SNOW TIRES. That is the best advice ever. They will make a WORLD of difference. I have not driven it in the snow yet, hopefully not ever, but that's some of the best advice to give. 8. The A8 is wonderful. I completely agree with you that auto is better for a daily, which is why I went with it. I really disliked the slow response of the trans in the Cruze, but you definitely don't have to worry about that with the Camaro. It's built for speed. You mentioned the seats in the Cruze, I could never stay comfortable on long trips in mine, but the Camaro is way better. No back pain or uncomfortableness for me at all. |

I have driven in the snow, I would for sure not try it with the summer only tires but after replacing those with the Continental Extreme Contacts, it was fine.

Best bang for the buck and the most fiscally responsible choice is buying a 2-3 year old car after the huge initial depreciation dump. Don't fall for the certified pre-owned bs. Find the car you want from a private seller for the exact car you want. Run to your local credit union for the loan and a cashiers check (sign up for a checking acct now if you don't have one already). You'll need the vehicles vin. Tip: have the amount you intend to use as a downpayment in cash. Have the check amount done for the difference in their asking price. Then come in negotiating low knowing you have the cash to cover. You'll likely save thousands vs buying used from a dealership and save $10,000 vs buying new! Leave the new car buying to old people and buy from the old people when they upgrade!

Awesome you answered nearly every question I had!! Thank you! Money isn't really much of an issue, I just haven't really decided. Plus I don't want to drive a Camaro to college and work....rather just deal with the Cruze. Haha.
