Is it hard to Register a new camaro to different state?
Hi Guys,
Im fairly new to the forums. Just wondering if you guys have any knowlege of how difficult it is to register a new car out of state. I live in El Paso, Tx but at the local dealerships they dont have the 2016 Camaro 2SS Hyper blue im looking for. I found one in New Mexico thinking about taking a trip to bring back that sweet baby back with me. But dont know if it a lot of hassle to change states on the car. Eg. Title, registration, plates. Thank you fr you help! |

I'm buying mine in Michigan and driving it home to Alabama. I'm assured it'll be no problem. I'm not the only one to do this...
Only thing you might want to ask about, believe it or not, is the front license plate holder. If your home state doesn't require one, but the place you're buying it does, they'll probably drill / mount a front plate holder out of habit. Request they not do this.

It depends sometimes on the states and the dealerships and sometimes just who is handling things.
in 2011 we leased a car from a dealership in CA and we live in AZ. It was cake. The dealership sent the paperwork to the CA DMV, they titled it, and then flipped the title to AZ and I was able to register it within 2 weeks. In 2014 we leased the exact same type of car from the exact same dealership and it took 4 months to get the vehicle registered!! I had to let the car sit in my garage for 2 weeks at the end since I couldn't legally drive it. All kinds of things got screwed up from the leasing company to the CA DMV to the AZ DMV and everything in between. My point is it can go both ways. If it's possible to have the company title it in your home state initially, do it that way. Titling it in one state and then flipping it was way to hard for them the second time around for some reason. I'm sure it's easier if you plan on purchasing it all cash but if you are leasing it or have a lien holder, it may not go as smooth. Good luck. |

I bought mine in virginia and had it registered in NC, never left virginia. The dealer handled it all.

I don't think it is as common to register a car to another state that you don't live in...there's ways around it but I am too lazy to do so.
However, in terms of purchasing the car in one state but you live in another: 1. If it is a neighboring state dealer, they probably already have the ability to register to your state (as they probably have that happen enough to be setup to do so). 2. If the dealer doesn't offer that service, you can register in the dealer's state then go take your car into your own state's DMV and register it...they will typically refund you whatever you paid to register in the dealer's state and apply it to your new/correct registration. |

No problem at all. Bought my car in Ohio. I live in Florida. On closing the sale at Ohio dealership I got a temp Ohio plate to drive the car home on. The dealer charged me the Florida sales tax and he forwards that money to Florida. When I got home to Florida I went to the DMV and got my registration and title in hand immediately. No trouble and no extra cost.
