Woman ran a redlight and hit me yesterday

A woman hit me yesterday after running a red light. My front bumper and grill, also my black emblem is done for. My question is will the dealership order the parts and fix it if I want them to? Or will I have to find a body shop? I want the same bumper and grille I've got on it now it's an SS. Don't want them trying to cheap me out

If the dealer does body work they might be able to do it. Also depends on the insurance company. They may require you go to an approved body shop. Either way, they should put the car back to the way it was pre-accident.

I'm not sure how much it varies from state to state, but typically you would get at least three different estimates from collision shops in your area. That could be three different dealerships or a mix of dealers and other body shops. Either way, your Camaro should be repaired using OEM parts.

Bummer on the crash, glad you're OK.

You're free to go to any body shop you want and dictate OEM parts. If you're making a claim through insurance, then like Inspector 17 said, they may have a policy for using certain repair facilities and reclaimed parts. If your dealership has a body shop, I'm sure they're happy to help, but that doesn't mean they do good work. It's not easy finding a good body and paint shop; talk to some local friends that've had work done that are happy with the quality of their repairs and go from there.

Good luck!

Depends entirely on what is stated in your respective insurance policies and how hard you're willing to (politely) fight for wrt the aftermarket parts you had on the car.

The insurance company determines what they pay for, OEM or after market. You have to argue with them. I have had to pay the body shop the difference between aftermarket , what the ins paid for , and the OEM cost to get OEM. Being a '17 they should pay for OEM. Some have a six month cut off on new cars. Over six months old, aftermarket if available.

Also there is different levels of quality of aftermarket. parts. Try to stay away from them even if you have to pay extra for OEM.

Find a good, small independent shop know for their body work. If none, then dealer. Also the women's ins will try most likely try to go on the cheap. They will not pay for your lost time, having to deal with the shops and travel etc. They will not volunteer to pay diminished value and you will have to file for that.

When people wreck you, you are out a lot of time, money and aggravation caused by them that their ins does not want to pay for. That is why people lawyer up even if not injured.

I was victim of a hit and run in a Safeway parking lot. Caved in the right rear quarter panel. $2600 in total damage. My local dealer doesn't have a body shop, but they have two in the area they send all their work to and have a deal with for supplying Chevy parts.

Talk to your dealer about what they have for facilities or who they work with. Here in Oregon, my insurance company was fine with the estimate and did not require multiple quotes.

Before you choose a body shop, look at reviews on yelp, google or anywhere else you can find and check if they have any complaints at the BBB. The longer they have been in business the better. I found a shop when I needed to get something fixed on my 5th gen that has been in business for over 26 years and had high ratings on yelp. I called the owner and spoke to him for about 10 min asking about how he does things and went into the shop to check on some of their work. Everything looked great so I told my insurance that was where I was going and they didn't argue. Do your homework and you should get a good result. Maybe some people here that are in your area can make some recommendations from their own experience. I would however caution against using chain stores as they tend to cut corners a lot.

I had the same thing happen to my 2017 a month ago. I request nothing but gm
Parts and that is what they are using. Adjuster said there are very few optional parts
For the 2017s right now anyway.

I'm not sure if this differs depending on what state you live in, but I know in PA, an insurance company can't require you to use a certain approved shop. They are great at making it sound like they can do it, but you are free to go to a shop that you choose.

Don't lose any sleep over the accident! Your Camaro will be repaired using OEM parts because the 6 Gen is still new in that the aftermarket body parts are not many if it all. My '16 had major front end damage back in November from an accident and was repaired with new GM parts. Of course some parts were back ordered that held up the shop that repaired it causing it to take about 2 months for me to get it back. The only thing I can see is that you might be without your baby for a few weeks but it should be good to go when you get it back! Good luck and no it probably won't be your first and last accident. At least it wasn't for me.

Did they use new parts for your car or did they try to repair it?
