NASA and the Air Force Used Awesome Chase Vehicles
http://autos.yahoo.com/news/nasa-air...170058029.html
Presently, the Dodge Charger is in use, replacing several GM cars, including a Camaro, a Pontiac GTO and a Pontiac G8. I found this interesting and thought I would pass it along.

This subject seems to come up about once a year. That is actually a new article about it though.

I saw that article posted on the Yahoo! front pages the other day... the teaser indicated how NASA/ military uses awesome chase vehicles, and the caption photo showed a pic of a 5th gen Camaro. So, sure, it hooked me, I read the article... and found the cite of Camaro in one lil' ol' wrap- up, gotta- finish- my- assignment- because- my mom- makes- me- turn- the- lights- off- at 930PM sentence. Weak sauce. Typical Yahoo! article.

Thanks, Algeron... nicely done! Yes, that was the teaser pic from the article... but only on the "click here to read this cool story" part, as the article itself clearly provided very little more about the Camaro, and certainly had no more pics of it.

Yes for the Air Force it's a deployed location. They have U2 planes stationed there. I've been there twice. It's also a deployment area for some army folks depending on your MOS, those guys were there 18 months. As for in the states you won't see one unless you go to Beale AFB in NorCal majority of the U2's are there. Sent from the side view mirror.. While watching a ruststang fall back.. Ultimately just giving up |

More recent video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=E9S4qEKdmMU BTW, the "Bill Straup" reference (and subsequent 'net references) in the '63 Catalina portion of the yahoo autos story is, at best, misspelt and possibly erroneous. Bill Stroppe was the West Coast contact for Holman-Moody and, from the '50s, did extensive work for Ford and Mercury. His shop was located in Long Beach. Work on a Pontiac would have been outside his normal business case... But anything's possible, I guess. www.stroppe.com Other references have the spelling as "Bill Straub"...
