Hit a deer in NY!

Took a quick trip to the Mohawk Valley for a friends funeral - just got back to GA. Fortunately, I drove my truck. Unfortunately a dumb ass deer ran out in front of me one evening. The truck survived without any crippling damage and was able to drive back to GA okay. The deer, on the other hand, took a direct hit from the middle of the bumper and was dead as hell by the time I turned around and went back to check.

Bumper, fascia, and grille are history, probably a couple grand to fix. Happy New Year! SO GLAD I wasn't in the Camaro.

Did you throw the deer in the back of the truck?

Did you report it to the police ? Here in Ct it's the law. Also, their Incident Report copy
proves a deer impact which is a Comp loss, not Coll. It can make a big difference on your
insurance as It becomes non chargable in many States and policies.

Over time, I've teken three deer out by motor vehicle. Worst damage occurred to a rental car... and that was the first time I had ever purchased the "extra" insurance they try to upsell you with. Made it very easy... I dropped the heavily damaged car off, with a copy of the police report, tossed them the keys, and washed my hands of it... not a penny of my money.

Glad your ok and so is the Camaro!!! I took out a 8 point buck when I was a teenager with my Cavalier. I clipped it on the drivers side and it pushed my fender into my door to the point the door wouldn't open it. The deer survived but broke both back legs. Called the sheriff, he shot it. Who knows what happened to the meat. My dad refused to pay ins to fix it so we went to the junk yard, found a new fender and door, painted it and good as new

Glad you hit it square on, not worth swerving and ending up in the ditch or head-on traffic.

It was a pretty big doe and no... I didn't toss her in the backend. I doubt they had a cleaning station at the hotel.

Yeah, I nailed her hard and clean and she flipped over to the side of the road and slid along by the passenger's side of the truck for about 30-40 feet (wife was there watching her slide along).

Didn't report it or notify anyone but my insurance guy - don't know if NY requires that or not. Drove by the site the next morning and she was gone. Sent my agent pictures and explained the incident - no problems. He knows I wouldn't BS him.

you dont have to report it. that deer was welcoming you to ny. its just a little taste of what its like to live in ny. The deer are to civilized to do what the politicians do to you. They use no lube and just ram it harder when you start to bleed.
