I did some reading up on it. Seems to be more hype than anything. It dissolves or reduces the minerals in size which still stay in your water and doesn't actually add any softening effect to your water. I love my whole house filter and water softener setup.

I was looking at water softeners, and came across it on home depots website. i need something small, because i really dont have any room to put one. im also not fond of the 15psi water drop commonly associated with water softeners.

I have a whole house filter with a gradient filter that starts filtering at 50micron and goes down to 5 micron at the terminal end. It is installed before my water softener. I have almost zero pressure loss. After installing a new filter it takes about two months before I even get a hint of pressure loss and that only happens because of the filter doing its job. When I didn't have the whole house filter I didn't have any pressure loss just through the water softener.

I have one and it works. Got mine through Northeastern plumbing supply. 250 bucks I believe with Lifetime Guarentee. If not happy just return it. Basically it puts the Calcium and scale in a neutral state for up to 10 hrs so it doesnt adhere to anything during that time. I have the worst hard water Ive ever seen. Could deal with the hard water but couldnt deal with the water spots on my camaro. 1500-2000 bucks for a water system wasnt in the budget. This was so tried it. Sure enough no spots on my car. That and no more calcium buildup inside my hot water heater. Proof enough for me.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. MD water is def some of the nastiest water I had to put up with for almost 5 years and all my fellow Military brothers that had houses were always complaining about the water in Anne Arundel, Calvert, St. Mary's, Prince George's and Charles counties. Water quality is definitely one of the very few drawbacks living near the Chesapeake Bay and Potomoc/Patuxent rivers, but the positives out weigh the negatives.

Yea Md water sux. Its worse up where I live in Carroll county cause we have so much Limestone. One of the city's wells is actually at the quarry over the hill from my house. Eats pipes and water heaters like no tomorrow.
