Yes I am Driving the Camaro.

So I managed to get 14 days off and want to do a road trip of the east coast and see a little American History along the way.
My dates range leaving here August 29 and being back to work by September 11.
Destination points are as follows but not sure on the order of visiting.
Washington DC. I figure there is Mass transit so trying to find a resonable area in the metro to stay in leave the car at the hotel and just ride transit to and from the city each day. Either the Virginia side or the Maryland side to stay and commute in 3 days max stay here.
Recommended sites to see here?
New York city again leave the car at the hotel and stay somewhere in the New Jersey suburbs and ride the train in and out of the city each day. This is also a 3 day max visit location.
Maybe cruise through Boston on my way to Maine and spend an afternoon there.
Maine go visit grandpa do some fishing and what have you for about 4 days there.
So that leaves the remaining time for driving at a casual rate of speed.
Both DC and NY can be rotated around the stop in Maine I am not sure of what first. I am kind of leaning to first visiting DC go to Maine and then NY.
What highlights am I missing? Again I really do want to see history and make time for what ever to occur in the evenings.
So if anyone is in the areas what have you got for me.
