Smile No battery from OPTIMA for 2010 SS

Hey guys! Its time to upgrade and replace that factory Battery. So i go online and cannot find a yellow top for my 10-ss.

I call optima yesterday ..

" we do not carry anything for the Camaro after 2002"

I find this hard to believe!

Any advice, item/ part number or tips how i can get my hands on an yellow top optima for the SS?

thank you all as always!

Yellow top is a deep cycle battery. Red top is a start battery. Take measurements of your old battery and post location and talk to the tech dept. They should have something that will work. Also he might be able to tell you if a Yellow top or Red top would be best for your application.

If you want to test your old battery to see if it is still good, load test is probably the best way.

Why replace it if it's still good?

Try Braille, they make a lighter than OEM replacement

I just posted some info on Braille batteries on my project thread:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=45165&page=19

If you go with the 21 lb battery it will save you 24 lbs compared to the 45 lb factory battery.

Optima batteries aren't what they used to be...there's much better alternatives out there.

I've got 2 of them. 1 of them is over 6 years old the other 4 years old. Both are in daily drivers. I have never had problems with them.

I haven't had very good luck with optima batteries, I had one die after a year, got a replacement and it lasted two years, they refused to replace that one. Bought a auto zone 5 year battery and never had a problem with it....plus it was half the price of the optima.
That being said, some people swear they are the best you can get

Anything over 5 years on a battery is really good.

I was referring to ones made in the last 2-3 years after the buy-out. I have a yellow top in my 2500HD thats going on 8 years old, works flawlessly...bought a YT back in late '11 for my 06 GTO after the factory one crapped out and the damn thing died after the car sat for 2 weeks. Had to keep a batt tender on it all the time. Many friends have had the same issues w/ both red and yellow tops bought w/ in the last 2-3 years. There's better batteries out there, especially considering what an Optima costs these days, JMO.

AutoCraft Platinum AGM batteries from Advance Auto Parts are excellent batteries for about $180 vs the optima costing $230

I have an Odyssey battery in just about every 'vehicle' I own. When I have to replace a battery it's with an Odyssey. Taking into account my Dad we have 10+ units in everything from ATV's to autos/trucks. Put the Odyssey in well before Delco would of failed for peace of mind. Drag the car a lot and have to use a master cutoff switch-don't ask me why but if I leave it on there is a small constant drain so I leave trickle on car most of the time. The Odyssey is designed for the drain and charge scenario. Only failure I've experienced was a Yamaha 660 Grizzly ATV after 9 years. Sorry I don't have model # cause cars in storage. I get all my batteries at BatteryMart. http://www.batterymart.com/c-odyssey-batteries.html 1)9 years really can't be described as a failure but actually a win 2) The Camaro is the only vehicle trickle charged other than winter. The battery has never let me down even with the master switch left on accidentally for a week or so. They claim 70% power shelf life for 10 years. Had 1 Optima-looked nice but not impressed.
