AFM MODE....HELP

Does anyone know if there is a way to stay out of AFM mode until I can have it tuned out. I have a 2021 LT1 so there is no track setting, only touring, sport and eco mode. I drive in sport mode and I do believe I feel and hear the car get quiet and throttle feels the same as in the old days when the converter would lock up. A very slight nudge on the throttle and yes it kicks out. I do not want to drive around in manual mode. I do not like AFM, I wished it was switchable for those who do not want it active. If I shut off traction control and or stability control? will that do it? I will be tuning it out in a few months, but for now what can I do??

Unfortunately no, there isn’t a way to disable AFM. None of the methods you describe will prevent the engine from going into V4 mode. You could try a Range AFM device but they don’t officially support your V6. It would be an expensive band-aide for the few months you need it.

People have boughten range AFM delete devices that just plug into your OBD II port. I’ve heard lots of good things about them and work as delivered.

There are plenty of related threads on the forum about these devices. I don’t really know which devices are the best/worst.

I havent changed what I am driving on the forum personal info page, I have a 2021 LT1 not a 1LT. Its a 6.2 automatic car. I realize the manual trans cars do not have AFM. So no way to temporarily shut it off while driving ? even it the car defaults back on every restart? other than driving in manual mode?

Sorry I read your car information incorrectly. Everything I wrote is still valid. My 2SS will enable AFM even in Track mode if I’m just driving casually. My car developed the dreaded shudder a few years ago so I tried everything to keep it in V8 mode. As far as I know the only way to keep the LT1 engine in V8 mode is to put the A8 into manual mode, downshift, and then upshift. You mentioned that you prefer not to drive in manual mode. I eventually bought a Range device to solve the problem without a tune. I got the latest fluid flush and so far the shudder has not returned. You can configure the dash to display whether the engine is in V8 or V4 mode if you’re interested in seeing that information.

I have a Range from my 2019 C7 but Range said don't use it on my 2021 LT1 with the A10.
With my driving i almost never get into v4 mode.

No need to apologize, so if put the shifter in manual mode (while driving or just sitting idling?) pull down for minus or downshift and then push up on plus for up shift and put it back in auto mode or leave it manual mode and it shifts automatically now without AFM till next restart?

must be sport mode or higher

1. start off from a stop in manual shift mode, manually shifting.

or

if you are in auto mode, switch to manual and downshift atleast 1 time (then back if need be, but must downshift atleast once). afm will not turn on as long as you stay in manual shift mode.

Unfortunately no. As crosive states you have to leave the transmission in manual mode. The good news is that you don’t have to start in manual mode. It worked for me at any speed. If you switch to manual mode and downshift/upshift and leave it in manual mode then the engine will stay in V8 mode for as long as you stay in manual mode. I can’t confirm if it works with just a downshift but that would be easy enough for you to test if you’re interested.

I can confirm just the 1 downshift is needed. This is how I kept my 2017 out of afm until I could get the diablosport afm disabler.

These posts are relating to A8 transmissions, the OP has an A10, so I am not sure if what was suggested will work on his car.

The Range AFM Disabler should work on his car although Range does not have it listed. Others on this forum have verified that it works on the 2021 A10. It works perfectly on my 2020 A10.

I got of set of these so I would not have to always use a range device plugged in my odb2 port.

RANGE TECHNOLOGIES (evidently now part of HOLLEY) techs told me in July that their module will not work consistently with the A10 transmissions. The techs said that they may produce an A10 module, and using the A8 module may interfere with the A10 transmission reliability and shifting. I for one did not want to risk damage to the A10 in my ZL1. Others feel free to take that risk.
