a8 studder/shudder...
Hello all.
Based on what people here have stated and watching some vids I am pretty sure my wifes 2017 has the a8 shudder/studder. Not sure which word is the correct one because it feels like a studder. it sometimes feels likes its shaking or studdering. whether its short or long distance it does it. Is there a recall on that? How does that get fixed? Best.

Well, there are a lot of threads on this.
Unless you have extended warranty, on a 2017 this will be out-of-pocket (and pricey). From GM, there was acknowledgement of the problem and a recommended fix (fluid change), but no recall. The fluid change would not be covered out-of-warranty. |

Do you mean a tranny fluid and filter change?

It's a complete flush of the old transmission fluid and replacement with an updated, correct fluid. If that doesn't fix it, you have to replace the torque converter.

Not completely, but the converter holds several quarts.

I would get a price and maybe an opinion from a mechanic driving the car.
It sounds like you are getting the vibration in almost all conditions, and I think your torque converter may be worn past the point where new fluid will help. Hate to see you spend $750 on a fluid change and then find out you need a $3000 TC replacement. |

I would replace the TCC... be warned that mine was covered under warranty but parts and labor were listed at almost $8,000 from the dealership. Avoid the dealer.

What year did the A8 transmission change out to the A10? Does this apply to 4Cyl Turbo?
My neighbor down the road has a few year old Camaro and we always talk about how we love our cars. I figure I should probably warn her about this to get the fluid change done if she hasn't already |

Shudder: a shaking or vibration sensation.
Shutter: a panel used on a window to protect it from damage, or a part of a manual camera. Stutter: a speech impediment whereby the person gets stuck on syllables or parts of words and repeats them unintentionally and cannot control it (see also: tic). Studder: not really a word, but maybe what some guy who nails framing together would tell some hottie at a bar when she asks what he does for a living. Slutter: also not really a word, but maybe the hottie at the bar (sometimes). Your car has #1. If it just started doing it you could be in luck, go to a GM DEALER and ask for TSB 18-NA-355 to be done. It should cost $500 give or take. If you do this early when symptoms arise, you should be good. Wait too long and it’ll be the torque converter replacement. My wife's '16 CTS did it at 41k and I took it in right away. They did the TSB and it has't done it since (25k+ later). https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...63890-9999.pdf Note in the TSB that it takes very specific equipment and a specific procedure to do it. I wouldn't mess with having a non-GM shop do it unless they have the equipment. A "failed" fix will cost you more in the long run.

For most people, a fluid flush and filter change fixed the issue.
Also, on 2017's there is a software update for the TCM. It will help with the 1-2 hard shift on a cold start and drive. It will also correct a software error that can cause a random CEL. This is typically a free update at a dealership. |
