Is invoice all that it's cracked up to be?

I have a few offers for invoice pricing (thanks, my87z28!) and that seemed really quick that they were willing to do invoice. Is invoice such a great deal anymore? It's 4% off MSRP basically.

I don't think it's spectacular. A lot of dealerships in the twin cities (closest large cities to me) have their Camaros at about 4% below MSRP. Looks to be the "competitive" price. I qualify for GM educators discount and it's the same discount. I'm happy with the price overall. It's a nice incentive, but I don't think it's too difficult to find a dealership that will play ball and give you some sort of discount.

It's pretty good especially if you can stack some incentives. Though I know there aren't many atm. Dealers around my area are obsessed with msrp, so I envybthe fact that you even got them to give you that.

I like to get on autotrader and find the best deal in the country and shoot for that locally. You have to pay attention to what they are trying to price into the advertised price and come up with a real number.

Right now the best deal I can find on a base ss is $2700 off msrp and then deduct incentives. I figure if a local dealer can get within a few hundred if that I am doing ok.

If I were to buy today I would shoot for 7% off msrp for a base ss up to 9% on a loaded up 2ss. This price includes all dealer fees but not incentives or ttl.

A loaded 2ss is closer to $4k off msrp plus incentives and I am able to find that deal locally.

I am waiting for better deals than these or added incentives and I bet I won't have to wait too long.

4 or 5 dealers have offered me invoice. I'm thinking it's not all that it's made out to be...

i am not a fan of all of those numbers. It is just a shell game as far as I can tell.

What's the best no haggle price in the entire country. That's what I want to pay or close to it. That number at least gives you a goal to try and get near. For $1000 in savings I will hop on a plane and go get the thing if they can't get the price close enough to make it not worth the trip.

The best no-haggle price will invariably be GMS but there are eligibility requirements and I believe GM audits each GMS sold.

I wonder if one were to add the subsidy to the GMS price the best price for the buyer woud result? This thought just occurred to me and I do not have the interest to factor it out.

I've posted this quite a few times now. You WILL NOT get 7-9% off MSRP without using incentives. Dealer invoice is 96% of MSRP on the '16 Camaro. The lowest a dealership can possibly go without incentive and without actually loosing money is 93.07% of MSRP.

Example: MSRP of $38,000, subtract $995 destination = $37,005, now holdback is 3% of that, which is $1110.15. Now take $38,000 and multiply it by .96, you come out with $36,480, this will be nearly exactly what dealer invoice is. So now $36,480 minus $1110.15 (holdback) and you have $35,369.85. Every penny less than this will be out of the dealerships actual pocket, without incentives anyway. Now take $35,369.85 and divide it by $38,000, you come out with .9307, convert to a percentage and you have 93.07%.

I did have one dealer offer me $500 below invoice, however he was 200 miles away. My best and most local offer was $150 under invoice. I figured the extra $350 is only around $4.50 more per month, plus I would have spent $350 in gas picking up the car, driving two cars home, plus taking the car back to the dealer for the two free services.

This is correct. GMS is around 96% of dealer invoice, or 92.2% of MSRP. However with GMS, the dealer doesn't loose money because the manufacturer still gives the dealer back the holdback.

yeah... invoice, gms, hold back.... I don't need to know any of that to find out the best price. feel free to check my math, give them a call(I did) or tell me what I am doing wrong. I have purchased a pile of new vehicles over the years and have had to leave the state several times. this system works well.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...19735762&Log=0

base ss other than auto. msrp of 38790, their price 34181, add in the dealer fee of 895 and the 2 incentives of 500 each and you are at 36,076. that price is 7% off msrp.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...19916055&Log=0

base ss m6, msrp of 37295, their price 32831, add 500+500+895 = actual price of 34726. 6.9% off msrp.

here is one that is local to me and more expensive.

http://www.woodhousegm.com/VehicleDe...-IA/2708051063

msrp of 46675, their price 42,980 then add 199 for their doc fee then deduct 500 they dropped the price when I looked at the car to get to 42,679. 8.6% off.

with this info you know what price can be done and have something to shoot for. you can compare the difference and calculate if it is worth your time to go pick up the car. I went to the Chicago area to pick up a trax for my parents and saved them over $2000 compared to what they were willing to do locally. it took me and my wife all day(a very long day) but for $2000+ it was a no brainer.
