Anybody (M6) removed the little shift pattern/SS cap from the top of the shift knob?
I was curious if I had to take the whole damn thing apart, or maybe this pops out with a pry tool? I hate the redish/orangeish color of it and want to get it sprayed like a matte black to match the suede color of the rest of the knob.

Thanks guys, guess I will change the color of my shifter boot stitching (black to light gray to match the rest) at the same time...thought maybe it was a quick pop off.

Just plasti dip it inside the car. You can easily make it matte black without having to remove the whole thing

Is this the same process for an A8 shift knob?

I thought about this, but my anal self would end up wrapping the whole interior in protective paper.

The A8 is a bit tricky but you can get it off. You have to slide the chrome ring down which takes a sturdy plastic interior tool and some muscle, then carefully pull the plastic trim, then pull back on the shift button to access the two screws.
