Wheel Hop M6

Hi everyone,

Looking for some insight I have 6th gen SS M6. Experience real bad wheel hop on prepped surface. Currently riding on Yokas AD09s, more of track tire rather than drag . From there upgraded to BMR cradle bushing lock out kit and lower trailing arms. Still same wheel hop. Have to baby the throttle or I hop violently. Any suggestions? Continue with suspension upgrades?

Assuming the stock tire for yours was the 275/35/20 then that shouldnt be a problem. I had what i first thought was wheel hop, but it was very likely some computer shenanigans due to having non-compatible tire size combo. But a 285/35 is only about .2" larger.

Just curious what power level you are at?

1.) Consider getting a true drag radial, as it would actually be more beneficial to your launch as opposed to the street tire. If nothing else, consider looking at an R888R or something similar as that's still better than your typical street tire.

2.) If you're drag racing on street tires - drive around the water box and do a quick spin of the tires to clear debris. Don't waste time with a burnout because it isn't beneficial and you'll just help spread water everywhere, most likely pissing some folks off.

3.) Lower the tire pressure on the street tires to about 30lbs, and drop about 2 lbs every time until you find that "happy" place. Every car will have a different one due to the type of tire/power/etc...

I'm sure there's something I've missed...

Yes it was. I looked it up before upped a size, I am well within 3% balance. I am at 462WHP/488WTQ.

That's what I do. I drive around the water box. I do have decent track tires Yokas AD 09s. Just not drags, next set will be Nittos 555R2. I tried to lower pressure once, I drive car to the track. Didn't help and I was far from home as we have only few tracks in a whole province so no air compressor to pump it back up.

Invest in one of these puppies, or find a similar one...they pretty much come standard in the Camaro ZL1... would allow you to inflate/deflate the tires as needed.

The 555r2 is a solid choice as well for track duty..

You really need sticky tires for a modded 6 speed
I'd even say get a real drag pack at least for the rear.
18" with rrrII's or mickey thompsons
