I still have until 2-2027 until my 3 year bumper to bumper warranty runs out, but how many of you have gotten extended warranties through the chevy dealer? I asked when I bought mine and he said something like a grand I think for I'm not sure how many more years, 1 or 2, I forget now lol.
Or just go without the bumper to bumper, still have the powertrain warranty for 5 years.

Extended warranties are just a form of legal gambling. The warranty company is betting your car won't break (and they get to keep your $). You are betting your car will break (and cost more than the extended warranty).

The only thing I would personally worry about at all is possible AFM lifter failure, and your powertrain warranty will still cover that for a few more years.

Also, the warranty companies always seem to find a way to weasel out of paying claims. Just take the $ you'd spend on an extended warranty and put it aside for future repairs.

Personal choice based on your comfort level and financial situation. You do have the powertrain warranty for 2 more years and that's really where the large money repairs will be. Generally with the bumper to bumper warranty items, outside of what would be considered powertrain coverage, those issues do tend to show up with in the first 3 years. Not a hard and fast rule, but that's the statistical reliability "bathtub curve" in manufacturing. The warranty covers the early failures (generally associated with manufacturing or assembly issues), then there is useful life, and then finally wear out.

My personal opinion is that it is not worth the money to extend the bumper to bumper warranty. Extending the powertrain warranty, possibly worth it. I generally don't do that either, but with the 6.2 liter bearing issues (I know they say the Camaro isn't affected), there could be value there, depending on the cost. But, if the motor makes it to 60,000 miles with no issue, it's probably going to be OK for the long run.

Extended warranties are just an insurance policy. If you have the means to cover the repair costs out of warranty, you are likely better off in the long run. I have bought many new cars over the past 25 years, and run most of them over 100K miles and have never purchased an extended warranty on any of them. When looking at what those extended warranties would have costed compared to what I paid for out of pocket repairs over all of those years, I'm ahead by not buying the warranties.

Thanks, that does make sense, I have never bought an extended warranty before either. it probably is mostly a cash grab for them.

I’ve bought two extended warranties for different brands, Toyota and Mercedes.

‘23 Tundra Capstone - bought at 11k miles and sold under 45k miles. Didn’t get to use the warranty at all and barely got 2/3 prorated refund.

‘22 E350 - bought brand new and sold at 67k miles. Also didn’t use the warranty and barely got 1/2 prorated refund.

Each warranty was up to 100k miles. Funny enough, the one car we didn’t buy an extended warranty on is the one that would’ve benefited the most (‘20 BMW X5).

I have CPO warranty on my Camaro which the bumper-bumper CPO will expire this month. I’ve made an appointment for oil change and overall check to see if they can find anything before it ends. I did get a CEL about the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor which was outside of normal warranty but covered. Can’t remember if it was under Powertrain or the CPO Bumper-bumper

My bumper to bumper warranty ran out a few months ago. Got GM platinum coverage, just in case. Hell one bad electrical part could cost over 1k. Good till 2032 & 80k miles. I might reach that mileage by 2032. Cost about 1500.

Bought an extended warranty for my wife's 2019 Traverse, my 2020 Silverado and my 2023 ZL1. Prior to that, had one on our 2016 Traverse and 2015 Colorado. Used the extended warranty ONE time on the 2016 Traverse. Long story short...we will put away the money that the warranty cost for repairs if needed down the road. ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT...for us anyways. Any future vehicles we may buy, we will be opting to NOT get an extended warranty.

I'm way ahead on the one I purchased for my 2017 Corvette. Have not needed it for the ZL1, yet.

The only reason I would have considered one for the Camaro would be for the convertible top and associated components... Guess what parts are explicitly NOT covered under the warranty?

that is quite a few more years of coverage for 1500.
did they offer less years? i have never gotten an extended warranty before.
when it gets closer to mine running out i will probably call the dealership and see what they offer, if its a good deal might be worth the peace of mind.
if you do not use it they prorate some money back to you?

Yes, if you sell the car before the warranty is up you will get a prorated amount back. Also you can negotiate the cost of the warranty and they are generally willing to negotiate since it is just extra profit for them.

If I decide to keep my Camaro a little longer I will purchase one. I had one on my 2016 and it MADE me money since i had some things fail and then got a prorated amount back after selling the car. With the amount of 6.2 liter engine failures, I am going to get one if I want to keep the car.

It's really a subjective matter. To some people it is worth it, to others it is not. It's like car insurance. You hope you never need to use it but glad you have it when you do.
