Car Won't Start - Don't Suspect Battery (with video)

https://youtu.be/5BZDEECUZQA

Car won't start. Lights were on auto and I didn't leave the dome light on or anything. 1/2 tank of gas. Tried jumping and it's like the computer in the car restarts when I push start. Interestingly, the dash computer reads 13.0 volts, which I think is in the normal range. In the video I'll attach, my car is still hooked up to the other car.

Any ideas before I flatbed it 30 min to the nearest Chevy dealership?

I'll give it a shot. What would that do? Reset computer or something?

Do you hear the starter solenoid click? I can't tell in the video, but I don't seem to hear it. The start button push probably sends a digital signal to a module which fires a relay (K10, see page 287 of your manual). That relay then activates the starter solenoid. Relay K2 (run) is also involved. I am not sure if both relays need to be good for the engine to crank. Starter fuse F13 also worth checking. These are the easily serviceable items. The whole chain needs to be good though: starter button-> control module -> relay -> fuse -> starter solenoid -> starter motor.

I feel stupid asking but how do I get the trunk open to disconnect the battery? The driver's side door button, the button over the license plate, and the remote don't respond because the car's dead. Is there a manual release somewhere that I don't know about?

I think I know what "click" you're talking about but I'm not sure what the starter solenoid sounds like. The first time I tried to jump it, things started to turn but it didn't fire up. Waited a few extra minutes, tried again and it sounded really close to turning over. After that, nothing, no sound, no click, and just the restarting that the video shows. Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter so I can't test the fuses.

Pull backseat down and crawl in trunk and pull the safety release.

I would call the dealer and have them pick it up.

Looks like CBF to me (Catastrophic battery failure )

Can happen anytime to a battery when a plate falls over internally.

shows voltage but fails under load...... batteries arent as good as they used to be with all the regulations the gov. has on lead manufacturers..... I'm not sure anyone is even producing lead in the USA anymore..i believe it all comes from China.

This sounds like a battery charging problem. Your display is reading 13V, so I don't think you have a dead cell in the battery (would give you like 10-11 V). If you jump the car from another running car, it should start up, unless you have crappy clamp connections to your battery cables and they are not passing enough current (amps).

You need good connections to your battery posts to crank the car. Loose connections will run the accessories and lights, but you need amperage to turn the starter.

At face value, that 13V reading would indicate a fully charged battery. I would see if either of the battery post clamps are loose. Then disconnect and clean them up prior to reconnecting. If you got it partially cranking with a jump start earlier, none of what I suggested about fuses and relays is the likely problem. You are just not getting enough power to your starter.

This is possible. Batteries can fail in strange ways.

Never a good sign sitting in front of your car.

Work done so far: poorly aligned interior trim, bent pin in connector causing shifter indicator lights to not work, bad transmission solenoid, and now a failed battery maybe(?). Not to mention poor (but liveable) paint coverage, corner of trunk scraping paint, whistle from passenger mirror, and intrusive AFM

I ove this car (when it's driveable) and as a first year new model car I expected some things to be less-than-perfect, but damn am I glad it's a lease. Not a good introduction to Chevrolet or domestic cars, for that matter. After talking proudly about my car to my friends and colleagues, it's a little embarrassing now.
