3 mm Caliper Clearance / 6 turns lugs

I bought a set of TSW Valencia 18" wheels for my 2016 2ss winter tires. I got 8 inch wide for front, and 9.5 inch for the rears. I didn't notice that the rears have a 3 inch lip, the fronts are 1.25 inch.

When I tried mounting them, the rear spokes hit the calipers. I installed a 6 mm stack of washers on all lugs and have about 3 mm clearance. I installed a few lugs nuts to hold the wheel snug, and counted 6 turns before the next lug was hand-tight.

From what I read, 3mm should be OK. I am not so sure about 6 turns at 140 ft-lbs. Does anyone have a setup close to this?

I would order 3 or 6nmm spacers from a vendor here.... all washers may not crush the same.

Ask bradfordcamaro for help.

That is odd. The 18x9.5 come in 2 different offsets. By the numbers they both 'Fit'.
You must have the 40mm offset.
I can see the design of the Wheel has the spokes sweep back toward the edges to create that 3" lip.
Nice wheel....a case of try before you buy

A 3mm clearance is the accepted 'safe' measurement.

A 6mm stack of washers ...generally 5mm is the most you want to go, but if you measured 6mm and get 6 turns hand tight. By all that is written you are good to go.
It could be the wheel surface slightly thinner allowing the lug to tighten properly.

But use a proper spacer, it would be good to be able to try a 5mm first...a 6mm one would be a custom job.
and, sorry to ramble, a 5mm spacer would cover the hub center ring I believe. Find a hub centric spacer.

finally, you can buy extended reach lug nuts which would give a couple extra turns.

I think I got it all

Typically lipped wheels cause caliper clearance issures, now in the insdustyr the way we work and this may sound odd is if a cc can clear between the face and caliper you are golden.

So in this case I would try a 5 mm spacer to avoid the washers and then count the turns, you should be perfectly fine then.

What he said. You'll likely get about 7-8 turns at full torque, which is plenty. But I would get a hub-centric spacer. Check these guys out:

I think the factory Brembo Package wheels on the 2012-2014 Mustang gave something ridiculous of 1-2mm clearance.

Heard of them their solid spacers. We are working with a local cnc shop that makes us forged custom cut spacers here locally ( been in the business for over 50 years).

Bradford, Yes, I have the 40 mm offset. The washers were just to test and take measurements. Plus, I don't have enough washers for both wheels

I am looking at these spacers : https://www.motorsport-tech.com/whee...ers_pop_car_d1

Looks like 5mm is the best choice. Thanks

They also sell a quality line of spacers from Adaptec.

https://www.motorsport-tech.com/adap...y_s?Next=16-30

Looks like the hub ring is ok with a 5mm spacer. Still made at 66.9mm for a perfect fit.
Also have a 7mm. But extended lugs would be a must.

Yes, the ring is about 12mm high, I had no problem centering the wheel when I had the washers installed.
