new continentals on my zl1-1le ?
so took this out for a 150 mile cruise with the new tires and was expecting a better ride than the oe goodyears but it did not, So have not checked the air pressure- what amount do you run for street driving-my 23 has 2400 miles on it and would like to drive it more but if this is the best it gets with new tires than i guess it will continue to look great in my garage. Does your car have rattles coming from the dash and somewhere else inside the car-and if so do you even bother taking it in to a dealer as the 1le you feel every crack in the road.

You have a Multimatic race suspension, no wonder the ride doesn't improve that much from only tires, especially since your OE ones weren't runflats to begin with.

Put 35 series tires all around and it will ride better. You will sacrifice a little handling. The ZLE is a track car and not designed to be a comfortable street cruiser. That is what the regular ZL1 is for.

If you are wanting comfort, road use drivability, there is not a better tire than the Michelin PS4S tires. There are TWO major variants for these tires and one is an OEM BMW & GM TPC Spec that has a four-compound, additional carbon belts and were designed to set records at Nurburgring for all-weather performance tires for less than $10/tire!! Watch this video to see the true differences... not all versions of the same size & brand of tires function the same. This is why I switched last year to the Kumho PS91 fronts as they are an exact copy of the Michelin PS4S OEM at nearly half the price but they do not make the rear sizes for the ZL1-1LE. I tested these tires in snow, ice and on the track with exceptional results! NOTE: The video shows the BMW M3 Competition which is a heavier car than the ZL1-1LE, so when using these tires, you can expect a considerably better road feel and quieter ride. I have bought four sets of these tires for two different ZLEs with outstanding results. Im running the Conti ECS 02s on my wife’s Mustang GT, also in 19” but did 35 series sidewalls (like King suggested) to help the ride quality with Massachusetts terrible roads. They’re a great tire.

I have provided several screenshots of the VitourP1 tires compared to the Michelin PS4s, Hoosier R7 Road Racing Tire and included the TPC OEM Goodyear SC3Rs specs to see the real world differences. The Hoosiers (345/30R19) are the tires with the 4/32" tread depth. You will also see a few other VitourP1s compared as they recently won an SCCA competition for wet performance, beating the Conti and PS4s for ultimate grip at full tread. Not that we try to get caught in the rain with our ZL1s but if you want max dry grip, and may live in Florida... the P1s might be your new tire of choice! |

I've been running Conti Extreme Contact Forces and they are absolutely terrible with a capital F'n T.
First, a 200tw tire they lack outright grip. Second, they transmit bumps straight through the carcass of the tire. With the Multimatics of the 1LE combined with the lack of compliance in the tire, the car becomes a pogo stick. Third, the sidewalls are EXTREMELY SOFT! I drove right off the edge of the front tire at a track day coming in at 32-34psi hot. Absolutely unacceptable. I thought I was getting a great deal given how cheap these were but they are pure and utter trash for anyone lapping at the faster end. I wish I could give them away and get some money back but they are finally starting to show their age. The ONLY thing good about these is that they seem to last forever. Great for novice and intermediates at the slower end. These should not be considered an endurance race tire. They are straight trash. And they are "W" rated as opposed to "Y" rated. They are rated for 168mph max and they chatter like crazy at anything over 140mph. The Yokohama Advan Apex V601 has a "Y" rating and those are a 300tw street tire that can be had for $1,200/set. I hit 170mph on those and the car felt planted. A much better tire overall. Stopping was horrendous on the ECF with ABS constantly kicking in along with ICE mode. In a couple of places there are baby chunks of rubber missing. An expensive lesson. Never again. |

Both road course and autoX SCCA competitions filling the podiums across the USA. Sorry, previous post was using my phone if I dropped the meaning of the post.
