Which set of headers (listing headers with know problems)

All headers seem to have problems but which ones are the least problematic vs price or value

CSP - seem to fit the best, but still have issues with the wiring harness having to be moved. Never in stock and $1600 with off-road connection pipes

Kooks - cause false knock, wiring needs to be moved, rubs motor mounts, have to drop starter and sits very close to the starter. Can buy CSPs clone version with connection pipes for $1350

ARH - had arh on my old car, had burnt wires. Price lol

TSP - fit issues with steering column. Some have to dent the headers or just have it rub the steering column. Also no rear 02 bung on the cats, so no putting wideband. Not sure if the high flow cats are good, not sure if the my are 200 or 400 cell. Very reasonable price 1k with cats.

Speed engineering - fit issues, clamps leak, cheaper metal, not cat options but damn cheap and since the all have problems why not. Very feasible price $750 ish with 3” x pipe going to axle back.

Stock manifolds - give up on 10-20 rwhp on a bolt on car, no cool exhaust noise but no cost and problems.

I’ve search many times just wanted some fresh opinions.

They supposedly make the most power if you get the full system. That’s what user Juiced said and from the post, it sounded like his shop installs all brands, but they stainless works full system sees a higher number on the dyno. I didn’t put them because the $$$ is just too much for me.

I just put the stainless power headers on and they were pretty easy to install and they appear to have really good clearance all around. No starter removal, motor mount removal just the middle of steering shaft and passenger valve cover and 2 spark plugs on each side. I thought it went pretty well compared to installing a hurst shifter the previous week.

Do you know if the cats are 200 or 400 cell? Did they increase the exhaust sound much?

I have had Kooks on my 2017 SS for almost 4 years now. Other than moving the passenger side wiring harness which you would need to do for all headers except for the factory manifold, I have not had any problems. I found that they fit pretty much perfect and had plenty of clearance of everything.

Is it worth getting the jet-hot coating? Does it help with the wiring harness issue?

All headers require moving the harness over. OP, you are being a bit petty imo.

Yes the ceramic coating is worth it.

Running "The Online Store" LTH's on my car. The ones I got needed to have the flange on the passenger header squared up. Had this done at local machine shop, they weren't even going to charge me for it but I tipped the guy $100. The collector connectors also need to be hacked off, had V-Band's put on and mated to the factory Mid-pipe, that was another $150. Unless you buy a LTH/Mid-pipe system, I think there's going to be some cost for exhaust work with any header setup to mate up to existing mid-pipes. No rubbing, no wiring harness issues, no dents needed. Install was a breeze for these, did them by myself. Had to have my wife hold the Driver Side header when I passed it up through the bottom because it would have fallen on my face otherwise. I did remove the steering shaft for that side to install. Replacing the shaft was easy.

For what most would consider to be crap headers, I'm very happy with them. At $599 they were relatively hassle-free. Now we'll see how many years they last.

As from what others have said, all headers require moving the harness. You do get what you pay for, and thats why I only recommend Kooks (What I personally chose) ARH, or CSP.
With other brands you can get lower quality steel, worse fitment, bad QC, poor customer service, and more. I always suggest a heat coating as well, just for long term durability. Ceramic wires are also a benefit for this reason.

I am a little confused on what you mean by the stock manifold gives you 10-20hp? How does a stock part just randomly gain you horsepower?

My vote is ARH, and send them out to get coated.

I've installed just about half a dozen sets on both ZL1's and SS's and I've never had any problems with any of those brands. A majority of the cars I've done have been speed engineering. Never any fitment issues, clamps work as expected. I personally have them on my car as well, I was able to get them for 400 bucks brand new off Facebook. Couldn't turn that down...

ARH
Kooks
CSP

Any other brands are not consistent with fitment. Burnt wires are the fault of the installer. Also, you should use MSD plug wires as they have no issues with touching the headers and you can bend(curve)the plug side to shape them as needed. They are designed to do this. We never have any issues with wires. We also move the wire harness, on the passenger side, to the other side of the coolant tank and use a loop tie to secure it to the frame and away from the header.

Coating has its benefits but with the stainless steel used by the headers I listed, coating is unnecessary for street cars. If you're road racing, then coating them is much more important. You will have ZERO issues with quality uncoated headers on the street. Have your tuner turn up the fans to keep air flowing through the engine bay even at lower coolant temps.
