Shock color…paint quality and runs normal?

Hi all, really want input from people that understand my ocd.

Seen a cool shock colored car, want to run some pics by you so you can tell me if this car has been painted or if that’s typical paint quality.

Might be hard to see in the bundle pics but there’s some roughness in the plastic part of the intersection of the bumper and the quarters. Thanks!

You do realize you bought a chevy right? Lol

I dont see it. But maybe wetsanding could smooth it out?

Something similar to this happened in another thread and most of the guys started talking shit to the OP and when he retaliated he ended up banned. Don't take anything to heart.

Thanks for that. Hopefully nobody flames me.

I know most car companies do a crap job but this seems like it has excess drips on most of the trunk lid’s end points and at the quarters.

Where the paint ends on the bumper junction with the quarter panel seems rough. My semi-trained eye doesn’t think it’s been painted but before I drop $40k on it I want to be as sure as I can be that this is all normal.

I tried to zoom in on the extremities:

Thank you very much. Does the spacing between the bumper and quarter look within spec as well? Also, does the bumper have some roughness on its edges? Really trying not to get screwed on this possible purchase.

Thanks again, and beautiful 5th.

Personally, I think you are ok, that all looks factory to me, like someone else said, it's a $40K Chevy, it ain't gonna be perfect... I ordered my car new, got it with 3 miles on it, but if I didn't know better I'd think my rear bumper was replaced due to the fitment on both sides, but looking at all my buddies with 6th gens, all look the same...

If it runs good, everything checks out and it is overall in nice condition, grab it if you like it...

The paint on our Camaros is typically not it's selling point, so not a good indicator of something being amiss.

If you are worried about whether the car in question has been damaged (from an accident) and repainted, there are a few things you can do to research:

1) Check the Carfax to see if any accidents are reported

2) Arrange to have the car put on a lift for your inspection as a condition of the sale. With the car in the air and a flashlight, repair work and/or unusual scrapes or scratches to support structure may be more visible. The backs of the fender panels are pretty buttoned up (you'd have to remove a few screws to move the fend liner out of the way), but you should at least be able to see the rear bumper area pretty well.

Most of the cars seem to have fitment issues at the rear quarter panel, usually more exaggerated with heat. That gap is pretty normal, but annoying at times lol

Can confirm... paint quality is just terrible enough to be factory. I found a variety of odd little drips and such on my car and I bought it new. The parts are sprayed -just- heavy enough for the paint to collect in a handful of areas to make it look like there are blobs of paint that dried in place before it could drip off.

Thank you. I dont really notice any crazy gaps on her vehicle. When I polished and ceramic coated her car i didnt notice any of that waviness in the gaps like your pictures are but the drips are pretty normal. Gaps match all the way around the vehicle. Nothing super close and nothing spaced far apart.

Looks like it's pretty normal. Robot painters don't care for quality

My rapid blue had the exact same issues in the trunk area edges. Seems to be normal. If you have OCD grab some meguiars 205 and microfiber. You'll be able to level the drips down a bit to at least get rid of that edge. Remember these are production vehicles. If it bothers you a quality detailer can color sand and buff the entire vehicle and fix the edges but you'll lose mg's of your clear coat.

Now for the spot right under the left spoiler. (Image5874 correct?) That looks like a lazy repair where they masked off the spoiler and resprayed an area. If I was a betting man I would 100% bet that panel was painted.

For $20 on amazon you can buy a digital thickness gauge. Well worth the purchase for piece of mind. If its been sprayed and worked on the thickness will be much higher but you can already see it with the naked eye in that area.

it's massed produced, they spray and send it. The inspection will find and repair issues but those paint issues are passable for them.
