M6 Shift Knob Adapter for threads with black boot retainer - UPDATE!

Does anything like this exist for our 2017’s?

I want to put a Shift ball on in place of stock, but want to have a black gap between the ball and the boot (I don’t like the look of the boot all the way to the ball. The adapter at Speed Dawg and others seem to be molded in and designed to have the boot all the way up at the ball. I see Barton has a silver one that would probably work, but I want black

I’ve seen universal ones on Amazon, but have no idea if they are any good or would work on our cars

Well I went a different direction and ordered the hurst shifter with the classic ball, will install next month and now can just buy whichever ball I wish with a 9/16-18 thread (and will be selling a brand new Hurst shifter that has the stock shift stick)

Interesting thing that came out of this for anyone who wants to put a ball on their stock shifter (or the Hurst short shifter with Camaro stock config). I had contacted Barton Industries who makes the aluminum adapter and left them a message asking if they make it in black. I got a call today and they checked with their shop guy and he said he could powder coat/paint and they now added that as an option on their website (for an extra $20).

If anyone wants a black powder coated or black glossy Barton adapter to allow a thread on our stock handles, they now make them as of today. It is a non standard 3/4-16 thread but Speed Dawg will drill for this odd size.

^ great looking out for the community! I keep going back and forth on the idea of a different shifter. This provides more options.

I bought a black Raceseng Shift Knob Extender awhile back. i haven't put it to use yet and am still on the fence. They went out of business but maybe you can find a vendor that still has them in stock?

Anyone have one of these shift knobs? Does it shorten the shift length at all?

Using the link provided in the original post .... it says it
" - Sits at Factory Height" .

With that info, I'd say it would be pretty close.
Personally, I'm thinking I want a lengthened/extender and possibly angled back some when I swap mine out. I do that to my RallyCross Miatas to make reaching the shifter easier/quicker from the rapidly twirling steering wheel .... (think autocross in the dirt).
Even do that on my old air-cooled VWs .... because reaching forward and bending down to shift sucks. 😆 But driving those old 50 hp Bugs are sooooo fun.

Pic of the RallyCross Miata shifter set up. Extended AND angled back.

The ball sits in the same relative location as the factory knob does if that's what you're asking. It does not change the throw length of the shifter.

Unfortunately, there's no shift knob extenders for 6th gen camaros that I'm aware of. Raceseng went out of business, but they used to sell 1.5" and 3.5" extenders that were compatible with their shift knobs (I have their 1.5" version). Beyond that, the only option I know of is the hurst ball short shifter, then find a universal aftermarket extender that will fit the threads on the shifter.

That's sad news.
I wonder if a 3D printer guy could make one?

I literally have a short throw shifter sitting on the shelf (came with the car). Just not willing to go through all the trouble to install it .... just for a knob. Lol

I got the barton pistol grip for my car. The shift feels more mechanical likely due to less weight and the shape feels good in my hand. Highly satisfied.
