Too much air gap?

Hey guys, I installed some brackets to lower my hood insert. It dropped it a few inches, and now I can see my rotofab filter, as it no longer reaches the hood in some spots without the rain shield/diverted on. Would this be a benefit because it has access to fresh air, or a downside, because it can also suck in the hot engine air?

It'll suck in hot air from the engine and potentially worsen your heat problems. That's the reason these open filter boxes are designed to seal to the underside of the hood.

Fresh air is supplied from the front opening of the box via a rather complicated and narrow path, which can be optimized by cutting the flexible rubber snow blocker and/or installing a ram air intake (Velossa).

Damn, alright, I guess I'll throw the stock airbox back on >.< I have the velossa intake and some duct tape to tape the seams, along with some heat tape that I'll add to the factory box, cause why not, lol. that's next weekends job. Green filter stil the way to go? Thankyou for the response!

Green filter is good, yes. I'm not super familiar with how much it helps on a ZL1, since I have an SS, but and intake or a filter (that actually does filter out dust) alone will not give you any appreciable extra power.

If I want to be completely honest, the reason I have the Roto-Fab is still 80% looks and only 20% performance, even now that my car is heavily modded and tuned to take advantage of more airflow.
