After reading in another thread about how you can remove the rain guard on the facelifted SS hoods to get more airflow out of the engine bay I realized that my '16 SS has the same thing (albeit on slightly smaller vents).

Like the 2019+ cars, it's as if GM fully intended for you to take the rain guard out for extra airflow. The piece unclips easily. You just have to trim the under hood insulation slightly.
