Clear programmed key

There is a fob programmed to my Camaro that I would like removed. I do not possess the fob and do not ever want the person who has possession of it to use it.

How can I remove this 3rd programmed fob?

You can achieve this a couple of different ways. If you have a decent scan tool with special functions for the immobilizer you can do all keys lost, which should erase all keys and then you can program the keys you have back to the car.

Or you can follow the "Programming without Recognized
Transmitters"
procedure from the owners manual which should do the same thing without a scan tool. From the procedure there is this line which is what you said you want.

"...all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle. Remaining transmitters can be relearned during the next steps."

Make sure your battery is good and has a good charge on it before starting this procedure as it will take over half an hour to complete.

One other thing to note with our cars is once a key is programmed to a vehicle, it is permanently programmed to the vehicle. ie without some special reprogramming it can never be used with another. However, the vehicle also needs to know about keys paired with it. Thus, even for keys previously paired with the vehicle. Once the vehicle forgets about them, they're not able to be used until they are reprogramed/paired to the vehicle again.

Hope this helps!

Nice! This helped me, and I didn't need help with it.

Do take notice that 2016-2020 key fobs are incompatible with 2021-2024 models. I went through this and found they changed internals and mix-matching won’t allow programming the key

There goes my "good idea" of keeping a fob from when I sold my 2016 for possible use with my 2021...

Yep, my 2016 fob just sits in the spare key drawer now, I do find the fobs are pretty cheap on eBay. To be sure it’s a ‘new’ OEM fob I’d check for the Chevy emblem on the back as well as the QR code with 4 digit key. It’s the key code for the original car it shipped for in order to cut the right physical blade but no way to link it to the original VIN traditionally so it’s an unmarried key

Yup the Fobs are different between the years and from the linked thread the most important thing to do is make you get a fob with the right FCC ID for the year of your car. I believe all years operate at 433 MHz but as stated they are not compatible.

Also To the best of my knowledge the digits on the QR sticker represent two things. The four digit number at the top is the last four digits of the part number of the key fob. The digits underneath ending in an M such as 315m or 443m is the frequency the fob operates on.

Sorry I took so long to reply to this, instant notifications apparently aren't working. Forgot to check back in.

Using the section you provided, I found the procedure already documented here in the forum: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587170

Thank you very much.

I’m new here and hope I’m not doing anything wrong. My question is I have a keyfob I want removed from my cars memory, if I use the lost all key fobs relearn way of doing it, do the key fobs all have to be unlocked again or will it just relearn them since they are already issued to my car? And will my car only show the amount of keyfob I relearn to the car? Right now it has four programmed to it, if I register them all again less the one will it go back to showing just three in memory?

What's the keys programmed to a car. It's permanently programmed to that car and can't be unlocked. However, for a key to be used with the car, the car also needs to know about the key.

So when you do the all keys lost procedure the car forgets about all of the keys at previously knew about. However, for any keys you want to work with a car going forward, you need to pair them with the vehicle again as part of the procedure.

So if you do all keys lost and then pair three keys back to the vehicle the vehicle will only know about three keys.

I bit the bullet and did the “Program with no known key” process and it worked out great, was just nerve racking waiting on it for 30 minutes to ask for the key 1 to program.

Great news At least the Camaro supports this without resorting to a higher end scan tool like older GM vehicles or my daughter's Nissan, for example.
