Racing harness that buckles into stock locations
Even with the 1LE recaro seats, I'm getting tossed around in the car more than I like on HPDE track days. I'm using my knees to brace myself around hard corners, and giving up speed & control. I've tried the seatbelt tightening technique in the owners manual, but it isn't enough.
Back when I used to autocross (20 years ago) a lot of folks had muti-point racing harnesses that buckled into the stock locations, including the back seat buckles for the shoulder harnesses. Anyone familiar with these or know where I can get one for a 6th gen Camaro? I've googled this to death, and haven't found one.

Those aren't safe, you can submarine under them. If you are fast enough to be moving around the seat it's time to suck it up and get a proper racing seat.
I had the same issue as you, it got to a point where it was just dangerous. |

Well, I suppose that's why they are really hard to find compared to 20 years ago. Any thoughts on using a 4 or 5 point harness with the stock recaro seat?

I think if you're fast enough to need proper belts you need proper seats. Need to go with a real seat and 5/6 point harness. No point in keeping the Recaros IMO.

Can't use the Schroth ones for Camaro because the angle is unsafe for stock mounting points. That's why they don't list it for Camaro.

It's not "safe" because it hasn't been tested. No worse looking than mini cooper kits they sell.. perhaps worse i would say.
Supposedly E90 kit fits. At your own risk.

I’m really on the fence about this issue. I promised myself I wouldn’t “mod” this car, just focus on driver skill improvements. I think this might classify as a driver improvement issue though.
What other options are out there for a little extra driver security? To get a race seat, harness, and just a bolt in half cage, I think I’ll spend about $3500 altogether. I’m not looking for extra rollover protection at this point.

I'm using a Schroth Rallye3 (with the stock Recaro) which buckles into the rear drivers side shoulder point. It has the anti submarine tech but they do not list it as an approved application because it hasn't been tested in the actual vehicle. I run it exclusively on track and then disconnect and stuff behind the seat on the street. It definetely helps hold you in the seat better than the factory belt.
I feel it's perfectly adequate on track, I read enough about it that I feel confident in my decision. I'm also not willing to put race seats in my car and a roll bar because once you do that it's no longer a safe street car. |

For those interested… I just checked the strap angle if I were to use the rear seat buckles with a 4pt ASM harness. At 5’8” and my seat low, it’s just below the 45* max angle.
So now I’m strongly considering the Scroth quick connect harness. |

I also emailed support at discoveryparts dot com. Here is their response for what's it's worth and the belt I'm considering: "They do not have any that are made for the camaro. But I do know that the ford focus G3 ones fit a ct4-v and that has similar dimensions and parts as the 6th gen camaros. It may work for you. Let me know If that is something you are interested in" May get this one: https://discoveryparts.com/products/...43948153929947 |
