Perfect customer service from Griptec

Called Griptec today as the pulley I have lost all the grip. Anyway talked to the guys on the phone explained my situation and they were more than happy to help. Offered to send out a new pulley and also told a few things to look out for when installing the new one.

All I can say is class 1 act and I would definitely order from them again.

I couldn't tell you to be honest. I was out riding the other day decided to hook up the hptuners and do some logging. Got home and looked at the log and saw I wasn't making the right boost at 6500rpm. As usual thought it was belt slippage which it was but it wasn't the belts fault. Like the pictures show all the coating is gone but the guys a griptec like i stated were awesome.

Sidenote..........I had no clue that Gates doesn't make the RPM belts anymore.

I’d be taking a close look at the tensioner… only way that pulley gets to be that way is there’s not enough bite into the belt and too much reliance on the frictional pulley surface. I could totally be wrong, but just my 2 cents.

Belt may be too tight if its eating the coating off the pulley. I've seen that happen before. Usually the belt makes A TON of belt dust as well if this is happening. I've seen a pulley and a belt destroy each other in less than 1000 miles if they are too tight.

I am pretty sure this is why guys have also snapped the pulley shaft off the end of the Whipple supercharger. If you don't have the slide tensioner washer on the back side oriented in the correct direction, it makes the supplied belt almost impossible to get on and maxes out tensioner. Flip the washer the other way and now you have plenty of adjustment and the belt goes right on and tensioner travel is 1/2-3/4.

Moral of the story is, when you see odd issues like this don't automatically assume it's that part. Something else is likely causing the problem.

Is your tensioner about half way through its rotation with the belt on?

This has always been an area of concern on my setup. How tight to make the belt, what metric to use when tightening.

I always struggle to find the right belt length that I can fit on but still get nice and tight.

This is exactly what I asked them and the rep stated that the tighter the better. He even suggested I go down a size the belt could be too loose. If I can move the tensioner more than 1/4 inch to get the belt on it may be too loose. He suggested that I actually get the belt on by slipping it over the tensioner since the edge is smooth.

I'll pay attention to this when I get the new pulley in. It was suggested I go a size down but it took sometime to get the belt on in the first place. Haven't changed it in a while so I have a new belt also so we'll see what happens.

I didn't pay any attention but I will say yes. Will pay attention this time though.

They dropped the RPM belt as it was terrible design. They marketed it as a Blower belt and my 2300 maggy busted it first pull. Found out why billet thermostat housings exist. lol

Yup, make sure the tensioner is near the middle of the marker. The RPM belt is garbage. You want the Green Belt.

I put a standard black belt on for now and went down 1 size (from 785 to 780) and good tension on it. Will see how it fits with the new pulley when it comes in. The closes green belt would be a 772 so I'll see how things go. Side note the next size down in standard size is a 776.
