The Excitement of ordering a Camaro

Been thinking a lot tonight, here in 2025 we have no more Camaro's to order, I followed the Camaro ordering since they began and Becky D. who sadly is no longer with us and then Joe who sadly is also no longer with us, the work they put in to help people who wanted to know their order status it was always one of the coolest things to see, they went above and beyond. I never thought I'd get to have my order. I feel like those who buy these cars used will never understand the joy that some original owners got to experience, selecting what they wanted in a Camaro submitting the build, the acceptance, the TPW to follow, built status with VIN, transit, dealership arrival, and lastly the purchase. The excitement involved in all of that, and disappointment of waiting and stuck at various stages in the order for some. It is sad that it's gone for the foreseeable future but I wanted to create a thread where everyone could share their story if you all would like.

Sharing mine as it was a crazy experience. Building a car on the website after the discontinuation announcement, large dealership having an allocation open for the build, not believing it and seeing it get accepted, and so fourth. I know I’m missing a couple of statuses as mine was in between Joe & after Joe’s passing.

Beautiful Camaro! I genuinely feel bad for you Camaro faithful that don’t get to order one ever again. My 2023 was the first car I ever ordered. I’ll probably never buy a new car again in my life as I don’t want to take the depreciation hit if I wind up not liking it but wish all you Camaro faithful still had the ability to order the car you grew up liking. I am not a Camaro faithful. Just a car enthusiast that got drawn to the 6th gen due to it’s performance. Luckily for me there are still sports cars being made that I enjoy.

Mine was a very nice, mostly white glove experience.
  • From doing the online research and amassing pictures, articles, specs and documentation
  • to first talking to the no-nonsense sales guy at the dealership, who stoically acknowledged my trade-in 2LT with my admission of effing up by buying a V6 first then having come to my senses ("live and learn, my friend"),
  • through the order tracking that Becky also helped with,
  • tracking delivery movements via palsapp (who could never get the trims right),
  • all the way to the call from the dealer ("Sir, your Camaro has arrived and it's ready for you"), then pressing the start button for the very first time and hearing the LT1 roar to life, it was a ride of excitement and anticipation.
The Camaro is the first, and likely last, car I've ever ordered and bought new, never before and never again since, given how stupid it is from a financial standpoint, but I had to do it once in my life, and I couldn't be happier that it was a Camaro that gave me this experience.

My status code timeline is in my signature below.

Personally, I haven’t bought a car new. Maybe in the distant future but I’m sure it was a great ordeal.

Didn’t know you had my younger twin

the plan is if/when Camaro comes back, I do new scrapes of the window sticker API and follow in the footsteps of C8Tracker.

Yeah! I noticed that a while back, White is my favorite color on the 1LE love how it goes with the 1LE Wheels & the Satin Black.

I had a 21 on order, locally, then the pandemic and chips shortage hit, lost that order after about 60 days. When 22's opened up I called Joe and placed an order and never got an allocation. We rolled it over to a MY23 when those opened up and got an allocation within a week or two.
Joe passed not long after.
I flew up to Detroit, my plan all along, and drove her home to Kansas City.

I was a different type of crazy LOL

I purchased my 1LE and remember waiting a month or two. I didn't check on the order/status or anything like that.

My one and only request is that they DO NOT WASH IT! The dealership said I was nuts. I wanted to be the first one to wash it. Almost 10 years later, besides a handful of times, I'm still the only one who washes it...

Yeah, the long "stressful" wait to see if my '23 2SS 1LE would get picked up and built was a lot of fun. Anxiously waiting to see each week if it was my time.

First time I had ever done that... loved that I got "THE" car I wanted in the end.

So decided to do it again... just got in the waiting line for a built-my-way '26 CT4V Blackwing

The end of being able to order a Camaro is a significant loss for me. I have been driving Camaros since the early 70s. My first order was in the 80s and did so several times following. The fact that 2024 was the last year made me buy while I still could. Unfortunately that decision was made too late to order and I had to find one that had been built close to what I wanted and add some minor tweaks to get it to what I would have ordered.

Yeah, it's a glass half empty or half full situation... The good thing is you were able to at least get a 2024, and these cars can be modded and enhanced to a huge degree.

I've been lucky enough to be able to order a 2018 2SS that I've customized (with massive help from the fine people at Jannetty Racing) to exactly what I want it to be, inside and out, to the extent that I don't even want anything else, not a 2024 Panther, nor a ZL1 nor any other Camaro. What I have is perfect for what this car is. In a somewhat poignant way, this is definitely both my first and last Camaro (not including the 6th gen 2LT that I owned for a very-very short while before I traded it for my 2SS).

Good luck with your mods and keep the forum posted

My ordering process was easy once started, but the lead-up was anything but.

Started out trying to buy a car off dealer lots in June of 2020. Every time I found an SS 1LE that had color and options that was acceptable, dealer wasn't willing to deal or even talk to me. I tried calling dealers within a 5hr hour drive but no luck. So then tried working with Joe (order and then ship car to me on a trailer), but Becky had just passed and he was a more of a mess than he let on, so that went nowhere. I then moved on to idea of ordering one from a dealer closer to my house and canvased dealers with allocations, inviting them to make their best offer to me. Ten dealers yielded 5 bids, and I managed to get the equivalent of roughly employee pricing so I was pretty happy (COVID pricing hadn't set in yet - I was just in time!).

Ordered the car in August and it was picked up in 2 weeks. Totally painless ordering process as my sales guy was a straight shooter who only ordered Vettes and higher end Camaros for the dealership. He kept me appraised of status changes along the way and the car arrived around Halloween. By then COVID was in full swing so he delivered the car to my house and I signed the papers on my front porch. Right after he left, I jumped in the car and did the engine brake-in procedure in Track mode to marvelous exhaust notes!!!

Man, I still my love my car to this day. It's the only car I have ever ordered and it's exactly the way I wanted it. Tracking it never gets old. I'm still happily serving as an advertiser to anyone who shows an interest in cars that GM has built an amazingly capable sports car, and at an amazing bargain.

I had never ordered a car before so I tried to do a lot of research prior, I decided the only options I was going to order were things I couldn't do myself and ended up with just 7 options on my 2020 2SS:

- Magnetic Ride Control
- 10 Speed Automatic Transmission
- Dual Mode Performance Exhaust
- Red Brake Calipers
- Footwell Lighting Package (probably could have done myself)
- 20" Carbon Flash Wheels
- Black Camaro Fender Badge (ended up replacing it a couple weeks later due to PPF install)

I ordered my Camaro Nov 8, 2019 at Weseloh Chevrolet in Carlsbad, CA... I talked to 6 different dealers, 3 insisted I pay MSRP and one went as far as lying to me and telling me it was a GM rule that all ordered cars are required to be sold at MSRP or they could risk losing their dealer license (Escondido Chevy Dealer)... I ended up getting the exact car I wanted for about for about 10% below MSRP...

Took delivery on Jan 17, 2020... Which was a bit of a surreal day as it was... I went on a work trip a few days earlier and as feared, the "Your car is here" call came a couple days before I would return...

Got back from my trip on Jan 16 but had to stay up in Orange County overnight because I had to be at a meeting at Gulfstream Long Beach first thing on Jan 17 to help outfit and configure my bosses new $62 million Gulfstream G600 he had ordered the month prior... So I spent the day until about 3pm doing that and then raced down to Carlsbad to pickup my new Camaro! What an absolutely crazy day!!!

First ever picture (Yeah, I was so excited I couldn't even frame the damn picture correctly!)

During the test drive, we stopped and I got my free tank of premium... Car had 3 miles when I first got in it...

After several hours at the dealer and a terrifying drive home (I swear everyone was out to get me), the "Hot Rod" finally arrived at home (the first & last time (I believe) it was ever driven at night!) and my best buddy immediately went on guard duty to protect our new ride!

Today, 11,000+ miles and over 5.5 years later, I still love looking at it, still nervous when I drive it (don't want anything to happen to it) and think it is looking every bit as good (and in a lot of ways, better than) delivery day... (Tint, New Wheels, Smoked Markers, 'Merican Flag and a whole lot more...)
