Wheel Bearing And Hub Assembly
Question... is there an aftermarket "performance" upgrade available to choose, or are we limited to the OEM replacements? I am noticing a little resistance in free spin, the left (front) drag is more prominent (caliper and rotor off). Probably may be looking to replace them in the near future. Idk

SKF makes race grade hubs. I had them on my C5Z.
Unsure re Camaro fitments etc. If a hub goes it usually makes a noise when driven on and the wheel would have a play when tested on a lift? Unsure what your symptoms point to. I am sure others will chime in with first hand experience as i have none here. Good luck and cheers! |

The SS 1LE has the SKF x-tracker hubs from the factory; not going to get much better than that. If you have to replace, I'd go that route.
But, as trackclub mentioned, you don't necessarily need to replace right now. Just keep an eye on it and check for lash (i.e. hub moving inside the knuckle) and noise. Slight differences in drag aren't show-stoppers.

Thank you both... Alpha1BC any idea if the SS 1LE hubs are a direct fit to the regular SS when the time comes? Maybe you are already implying they do. But want to double check.

Did some digging, turns out all 6th gen Camaros have the same hub/bearing assemblies: 13512895 on the front and 13512894 on the rear. This means that all 6th gen Camaros have the x-tracker hubs, not just some of them.
And yeah! Was doing some digging to see if SKF sold the x-tracker hubs for the 1LE since a friend of mine has had good luck with them on a few of his track cars (I like to know what parts are available for when replacement time comes), but was pleasantly surprised to find it already has them!

I came up with the same part numbers for the F/R assemblies, just didn't realize they were the same on all 6th gen Camaro's. Certainly was unaware that they are the SKF x-tracker hubs.

Has anyone changed the rear hubs? That looks like a huge PITA

The replacement ones are still good - SKF's. As mentioned before, on pulling rear wheel bearings / hubs, you can do it either with the tilt the knuckle down method by removing the upper link bolts or just fish sockets in past the half-shaft once the splines are out of the hub.

I believe ceramic wheels bearings are always a great upgrade! Longer life, less rolling resistance and a decent bit lighter. The link is for drag racing but I know it popular in roadracing as well

it looks horrible but it isn't bad...remove the 36mm nut then the assorted suspension arms to swing the assembly away from the axle splines. Remove the 3 retaining bolts for the bearing assembly. I can do it in less than an hour start to finish.

I'm not sure how good the stock wheel hubs can be if they fit all Camaro's! There is a big difference between a ZL1 going around a track and a 4 cylinder being driven on the street...
