LPM 1000HP Dual In-Tank Fuel Pump
Over the holidays I received this as a gift. The way this is engineered seems a bit strange and according to Ted at JRE, defies conventional wisdom.
The DSX in-tank pump uses a CAN bus modification to control the 2nd pump. While the LPM is a drop-in system that operates 2 pumps as if it were 1 (through 1 connector) basically requiring modified fuel flow rates in the tune. Voltage requirements are increased for the DSX, but the LPM operates at standard voltages thru two higher efficiency Bosch racing pumps. The DSX is rated for 1,200hp and the LPM 1,000hp. The LPM costs $1,000 less than the DSX unit. LPM says that an additional fuel controller is optional for the 1000HP unit, but mandatory for their 1,500hp and up versions. Has anyone on this forum used the LPM 1000HP in-tank system? Anybody against the design philosophy? For my 800whp build we are going the way of JMS voltage booster on the OEM pump + 32% cam, but I wouldn't mind experimenting down the road with the LPM unit. Initially to me it just seems like a more cost effective way to ensure adequate rail pressure at standard voltages and also eliminating fuel starvation issues in High G corners with less than half a tank. For now I'll keep it as a spare fuel pump in case I have an event at the track running the JMS Booster. Would love to get any feedback on these from the forum. |

I haven't heard anything about the KPM units. What I have heard about them, however, is that they're not good news.
I really don't know what else to say other than maybe just stick to something that has been tried and true. Especially at the power levels you are at, you don't want to play with fueling.

Can you elaborate on "not good news"? Is that not good news in the sense of "I would stay away"? Or more like "Those LPMs grenaded my engine!"? |

It's been a while, and I can't remember where I read it (hell, it might have been their own website reviews) so I may be off here, but not good news as in they didn't work any better than what we got now for all the work needed to fit them in and/ or didn't provide any better or enough fueling.
Regardless, there is a reason you don't hear about these that much. Stick to Katech or the DSX in tank set up's. I run the Katech in mine and outside of an early revision stanchion issue that didn't reach far enough into the regulator to seal properly (now double o- ringed) I haven't had any issues with the unit whatsoever. I imagine the DSX is similar, but if you're looking for a good and solid dual pump set up, those are the options I would stick with. I'm close to 850 and have had no problems with my low side.

Thanks for that. Regarding the build in your signature, how much boost are your running to hit those horsepower and torque figures? |
