Starting the 6.2L

How many cranks does it take your SS to start?

I just got a 2018 a week ago and it felt like maybe 2-3 revolutions
Yesterday and today it feels like 5-6?

My 2023 takes 3 or 4. Depending on last time it was driven and outside temperature.

Depends...sometimes just one or two on a cold start, then another day cold start maybe 3or 4. Bottom line it always starts.

If you are talking a cold start - it can vary. The high pressure fuel pump is mechanically driven by a lobe on the camshaft. The engine will turn over without the ecu firing the injectors and the spark plugs until the fuel rails hit the right psi needed by the injectors (something like 2200 psi). So, the longer cranks are there when needed to hit the psi target. Bottom line - normal operation.

Newer cars also have several conditions (from sensors) that have to be met before it fires due to emissions. It’s not like older cars that need fuel and spark.

So it had a hard time turning over today after coming out of a store, had been driving for 15 mins prior. All the way home it wasn’t charging. I had seen it do this on another Camaro I rented in Vegas, coasting downhill would cause the charge to jump back to 14v and drop again as soon as I drove it.

Got home and it will not start tries to turn over and stops. Battery voltage is 11.9 with car off, before I shut car off voltage was 12.45

I have car on charger now, I’ll bet when it’s charged it goes back to normal and alternator starts charging at +14v again. What’s up with these electrical systems. I was luck to get an aftermarket warranty on it but it’s only been on for 2 days and I’m afraid they are going to claim pre-existing.

Always just one button push for me. ;-)

Seriously though I'd say 2-6 cranks - ambient conditions seem to have no bearing. when cold starting.

I remember my Dad's 73 Catalina, which was always in prefect tune, would literally start on 1 crank every freaking time.
