Having owned both, I agree they are both great Camaro packages. It just depends what you prefer. I will say the ZL1 definitely feels more special to me. That supercharger whine combined with the extra power just puts a bigger smile on my face than SS or C7 Grand Sport ever did.
The A10 in the ZL1 is ridiculous and you can see how fast he pulls away on the straights but as you mentioned the weight difference hurts on the smaller tighter tracks. That said, you can drive a Miata or BRZ on the small tight tracks with 1/3rd the power and keep up. You mentioned the SS 1LE "better chassis" a couple times but they actually both use the alpha chassis and both have the FE4 suspension with magnetic ride control so I assume you are just referring to the additional weight of the LT4 engine?

So the zl1 was ahead and pulling until traffic came up and at 8.10 you got the inside cause he let you then you pull away from a zl1 ? looks like he gave up.

Cool video of the road course. I race at PBIR all the time doing mostly straight line drag racing. I have yet to try the road course stuff and want to sign up to try it. It's too bad there closing that track around April. At one point in the video it looked like your buddy in the ZL1 let you go infront especially in the straight away where he would dominate. Was that on purpose for a rear camera view of his car?

So "extra weight" meaning blower and the 11 heat exchangers or is there more to it than that?

They have the same sway bars. Front Mag ride and maybe springs are stiffer on zl1 to help with the extra weight. The zle has smaller bars.

My friend knew I was faster in the twisty section, I was right behind him, so he let me by not to hold me up, I was a little faster in lap times. Yes it is a shame they are closing the track, with all the land in Florida, why do they need to level the track Such BS |

Yeah looks like the OP may not have much track experience and he's hunting for YouTube clicks, surprising in the least see that he thinks his SS 1LE vs a ZL1 driven be his friend is a test of which car is faster on a track.
The on-paper difference between these 2 cars, assuming same tires, is a few seconds depending on the track. The difference between the 2 drivers with traffic and different tires could be 10 seconds or more :-) I've tracked my ZLE a lot in last 3 years and same driver both cars, assuming same tires, the standard ZL1 will beat the SS 1LE on any track--technical track, high speed track, doesn't matter. It wont always beat it by a lot, but at least 2-3 seconds all other things equal. Yes the SS 1LE has track swaybars, other track parts, but the ZL1 also has PTM and excellent suspension tuned specifically for the ZL1 to be highly track capable, and then it has the 650/650 LT4. |
