Nitto

Anyone running 555r2 in 315/35/20?

From my research, I've seen that you can't really fit anything wider than a 315 on the stock tires in the back, is that right? and I've also seen that a 35 would be too tall which sucks because I don't want to run a r888 being that everyone says its ridiculously noisy, but that would prob be second choice since it has 315/30/20.

You will most likely rub the fender.

I think the Nitto 555R2 is available in 305/35 which should be fine. The height of the 305/35 will be more effective traction-wise than the 315/30 would be IMO.

305/35/20 and 315/35/20 will both rub.

They are both 1.2” and 1.3” taller then a 305/315 30 tire respectively. It’s also going to Throw the Speedo off by several mph even if it did fit.

Go with a 315/30/20 tire or use the nitto 305/30/20. Next step would be to drop rim
Size to a 19” so you can a 35 profile tire.

Many of us ran Nitto 555R in 305/35/20 with no rubbing. Couple of threads on this board about it. Nittos tend to run a tick smaller than other brands, so maybe that was it, but I did it for 2 years with no problem.

yeah I've been eyeing weld s77 but would do an 18 since they don't have 19; obviously overkill for now but when I do decide to go further than basic bolt ons ill throw those on there

with an 18, what is the widest i could fit in the back?

did you have to relocate anything? how was the 50 and under roll performance and what power level were you at with those?

Not here, mine rubbed and if you hit any sort of a bump in the road the tire would hit both the liner and fender.

A 315/30/20 tire is only 0.4% larger in diameter then the stock size but moving to a 305/35/20 tire increases the diameter by 4.4% which is 1.2 inches taller.

27.2” stock 28.4” with the 35. No idea how you used that profile tire safely.

If your not making tons of power now then the nitto 305/30/20 is fine for now. Once you start making anything really past 700 any tire on the street except a real drag radial isn’t really going to work. Neither the r888 or 555r2 will hold at my power level on launch on the street. Not like I launch on the street anyway. They will hold for 60-130 pulls only when hot and when roads are warm and ambient is at least 50F, otherwise it’s going sideways.

Yes, I have them. I ordered them accidentally as I meant to get the 315/30-20.

No they don't rub and I can post some pictures tomorrow.

I’m thinking the ride height of a ZL1 is lower than the SS so that’s a reason that Josh could run 35s on his SS unless of course he put lowering springs on it.

No lowering springs in my case. But you might be onto something Greg. I know KingLT1 and others ran the 35s on their SS too and I just assumed ZL1 ride height was the same… you know what they say about assuming….

I made sure the rear drivers side wheel well harness was moved as a precaution, but that’s it. Back then I was in the 650 WHP range and roll performance was excellent.

Likely because he has a SS and the factory fronts are 27.7" tall. ZL1's run shorter tires then the SS.

No tire is going to hook period at your power level on the street without some sort of prep from a dig. That includes Mickey Thompson ET-R or Slicks...I agree 700whp is about the limit for any kind of dig traction with any of these tires on the street.

Either way the 555r2 is a great all around tire. It's enough tire to get into the 9.90's @ 140 at prepped track. That is what Justin Keith ran in his intake, tune, 305/30/20 555r2 setup on his C7 ZR1.

Yep I know. I ran 285/35s on the rear of my 2016 2SS without any issues but kept the stock size in the front. Car had a very slight rake to it. The ZL1s have barely enough room for the stock size tire in the wheel well and going to a taller profile would cause rubbing unless you go to a 19 inch wheel.
