Question on Infotainment Settings while driving - Going crazy

Hi all! I was going crazy before I put the car away for the winter and want to try and figure out a solution while it's in there.

It's a '22. How did I make it so I can view my music folders/etc without having to be in a complete stop?

I believe I found a setting when I had my 19 SS to allow me to mess with my USB drive and such while driving, but for the life of me can't find it again in this car.

Did they remove the option or am I missing it somewhere? Even if I'm driving down a line in a parking lot, I can't browse through my collection or anything when I'm driving. There has to be an option to turn this off?

you have to send it out for reprogramming.

Yeah, it's a pretty annoying "feature" compared to what I could do on the move with my '16. On my '21 I have to use voice commands unless the car is stopped.

My solution is using an iPod for my music.

I connect my phone via wireless CarPlay and my iPod physically through USB (though you could connect both via the USB ports if needed/wanted).

Unlock iPod, scroll for whatever song you want. Much easier than USB folders imo.

my heavy work backpack occasionally tricks the passenger seat weight requirements, that enables that USB feature.

Good thinking on the ipod route. I just figured for a $65k car, it allow you to do anything you want lol.

Also good trick on the backpack, would have never thought of that lol. I wonder what the weight is that triggers that, I would be up for having something in the backseat (since noone can fit there anyways) and plop it on the passenger seat to "fake" a person.

It also locks you out of keyboard for GPS too while driving/in gear. I use Waze via wireless CarPlay on my phone so I just let out a loud sigh, grab my phone off the charger, and unlock it to manually search lol. I agree that it should be an option, not a strictly "always-on" type deal.

Might have to try the backpack trick but it's a bit inconvenient if you have no reason to carry one around haha.

I am pretty sure I was locked out of the media browsing, even with a passenger, but maybe a software update has addressed that - I'll have to try again...

ALSO, you can "favorite" your artists from the USB, So next to your favorite radio station or sirius FM crap you can have like 30 artists along the top. Then of course you can shuffle through songs with the steering wheel controls.

Ahh, good suggestion also! I'll have to take some of these into account unless I go the re-programmed way down the road. Thank you!
