Methanol and 10psi of boost on lt1
So I have had my P1X blower on my Camaro SS for almost a year now and it is time for some more horsepower. So I have ordered a Alky systems methanol injection kit I am getting Texas speed 2” headers and I want to downsize the pull to 3.7 inches. Procharger says this will jump the boost up from 7 to 10 psi. My question is, is this fairly safe with a good tune and the methanol injection, because the methanol will act as fuel and cool the IATs. Then if this is a good idea, I am shooting for 700+ whp, is that an achievable goal with this set up.

Adding the headers will likely knock off a pound of boost, but that’s not a bad thing. So you’re more likely closer to 9 psi. Methanol will help for sure, but just be careful if you are using it for fueling (in addition to charge cooling). What are your fuel system mods?

I have no other fuel system mods. I only want to spray it with methanol when the car makes boost. I am trying to avoid the ridiculous cost of running e85 in these cars especially when boosted.

You should definitely upgrade your HPFP and injectors to the LT4 version. Supercharging an LT1 with stock fuel components is playing with fire. There’s been a ton of discussion about this topic, plenty of good reading material on this board.

The issue for the OP will be Octane wall. The LT4 fuel system alone won't fix that. So you either have to run race fuel, E85 or Meth with the stock cam when you get above 8-9psi. A cam bleeds off some dynamic compression which will raise the octane wall a bit on 93. Hence why Jenetty's Street Brawler package is rated 700whp on 93 with no meth or additional fueling other then the LT4 stuff.
The issue is cost just to run 93 at the OP boost level. You will need a cam and LT4 fuel system for 9-10psi. Unless you are doing the work yourself a cam install will run 3500.00 or so easy with labor. Fuel System only to support 9-10psi on stock cam on E85 will run about 2500.00. LT4 injecor, LPE HPFP, LT4 lowside with JMS booster or Aux pump. Meth and LT4 fuel system will support up around 12 psi even on 93. That will cost about 2k all said and done. The setup makes more power then a Cam setup on 9-10psi with 93 and that is due to the ability to run substantially more timing. Race fuel adds a lot of fuel system headroom. Even with the stock fueling you could make decent power, but it usually doesn't make conversation due to the cost. Overtime it ends up being cheaper to spend the money on a fuel system up front to run E85 @ 1.60 a gallon opposed to 7.00 a gallon race fuel. That being said, I don't run meth but there are plenty that do with good results. The only way to really use it on this platform is by leaning out the fuel system since DI doesn't like to run rich. I would do the LT4 fuel system and meth just so you won't need to spray much meth to get the octane and cooling benefits in order to keep the timing up in a optimal range.

So basically the gist of what everyone is saying unless I want to spend another $1200, I should just stick with the 7 psi pulley and keep the meth and long tubes Any idea on what power I might make on that setup.

If the reason not to upgrade now is cost - consider you will have to pay to get it tuned again when you want to run more boost. Most tuners are $500-750
|

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I wanted to run the 3.7 pulley and do headers. I have the meth already. Pretty sure that would give me around 650RW. But for now I'm holding off. I wanted and got my 10 sec run. So I'm content..for now.

Pray has made 650whp on stock fuel system with meth @ 9 psi on a P1 car. He would advise against doing that however. Need full LT4 system and meth. Then you can go up to 12psi and go deep into the 7xx whp range if you wish.

I guess i missed that post :P but like you say its heavily advised against. I think he even decided to stop dealing with stock bottoms on boosted cars as the customers always end up wanting more :P

So I guess the question is do any of you guys know of a decent tuner in the Virginia North Carolina area other than RPM. Also, would it be fine with the lt4 system and with out a Cam with a bigger fuel lobe.
