Cleetus McFarland's impressive 850rwhp lt1 finally grenades

I know some here aren't fans of Cleetus, but I still find it note worthy that his stock bottom end lt1 lived through around 29,000 supercharged miles at over 800rwhp (850ish towards the end). According to cleetus and his tuner Jeremy Formato it was a mostly hard run and abused 29k, even running it out dry on the meth tank lol. Thought it was note worthy since it was far beyond the usual safe limit of a stock lt1. It was a centrifugal super charger which I do think is easier on the internals than a roots style blower.

Man , from brand new he beat that car like a red headed step child every time he got behind the wheel.... running out of meth lol it's simply amazing it lasted that long at that power level.

Luckily he didnt ventilate the block and if they got the preliminary diagnosis correct of a failed thrust bearing i would say things worked out pretty well for him and the engine.

Agreed. That thing saw the Gandy bridge races quite often before he made it big too.

He could have just asked me about that after I've been thru a couple short blocks as I pushed mine beyond the limits of just about everything internally.

IMO that car would still be running just fine if he took care of it. He ran it for a long time with a bad fuel pump, did too many rips with no meth the list goes on. At least he is honest about it and I like his channel because he will admit it was his fault when he blows things up early. The fact it made it that long is pretty impressive. Can’t wait to see what Texas speed does for him.

Did anyone notice the filthy air filter? Looked like it had never been changed or cleaned. But, pretty hard to fault 29K miles at that power level. Our forum says the LT engines without forged innards won't last???

Murphy's law..... engines only blow up when a person cares about it not blowing up.
A guy with very little (no) mechanical sympathy like ol' Cleetus gets 29K miles and just a ruined thrust bearing

My first thought, upkeep is not this guy's forte. He's like watching a high school kid get all excited and blow through money until A.D.D. kicks in. Hard to watch when that happens. (not saying he has A.D.D. just to be clear)

Given that the old LSx stock bottom ends could regularly and reliably support 1000hp FI builds, I would think the LTx bottom ends could do it as well, if done and maintained properly.

Yeah, but then he couldn't keep swapping engines and getting new innards without cause. I think what he is doing is a smart and fun way of running his channel, he seems honestly happy. But who knows, it is a show.

Right, then you have some poor guy pushing 600rwhp blow his up after 2000 miles while babying it the whole time worried about the inevitable outcome lol

Looks like every piston was broke between the ring lands. Likely what cause the rod to fail.
