2.0 AT to 3.6 1LE M6 upgrade?
Hi!
Is it worth the upgrade from a 2.0 with automatic transmission to a V6 1LE manual? With my trade-in, I am looking at 10K+ for the difference. Is it worth comparing the fun factor? Otherwise is pretty much the same car. Thanks! |

I test drove a V6 with the NPP exhaust and yes it has a better sound, but the difference is pretty small. You're better off putting 10k in mods once your warranty is gone, you'll have way more than the V6 will offer.
I didn't test a 1LE though so I can't tell if all the suspension makes a difference. And personally... I don't like the Alcantara, so no 1LE for me!

Obviously it depends on what your plans are with the car, your personal preference on trans type, exhaust sound, etc...

I don’t know much about the 3.6 1LE, but if you are getting the true 1LE package in a 3.6L I think it would be worth it compared to a 2.0L.

But to answer your question, yes it would be worth the money to upgrade to the V6 M6 1LE in my honest opinion!

Are you looking to track the car? If not, and you're looking for an upgrade, LT1 should be the way to go. Otherwise keep your Turbo and enjoy it.

I have a V6 1LE and am very happy with it. The NPP exhaust sound is one of the best parts. It does very well on track. But 10k is a steep upgrade. Unless the $10k is cash, not borrowed, and you're going to track or autocross the car, I'd keep watcha got, just get a mild tune for the engine, and a set of sway bars if you want a noticeable change in cornering, or if you want a bigger improvement, get one of the GM suspension kits.
If you were going to pay 10k to upgrade and you don't track frequently, a used SS would be more bang for the buck. |

Thanks guys! I will think about an SS, 2.0 to 3.6 doesn’t seem much of an upgrade besides the NPP.

The engine diff between the 2.0T and the 3.6 is not that significant. The biggest improvement/difference in the scenario you proposed is in suspension.
The 1LE suspension is way better than the std 2.0T car's suspension. But, as others have said, if you don't plan to track or autocross the car, I cannot see the benefit of the upgrade. However, if track days are in your future, the upgrade to the 3.6 1LE would be significant

I am very happy with my V6, M6, not even a 1LE. I added forged wheels and after market custom axle back exhaust. I previously had a 2017 RS with the V6, A8 with the shuddering problems, long story short I aborted the car. I consider my current Camaro an upgrade even over my previous Camaro just to get the M6 (and limited slip diff). Now it handles so much better with the forged wheels and sounds so great with the exhaust. You get so many options with the V6 1LE and it is track ready. And it will be so fun to drive. So, to me it is a significant upgrade over a turbo 4 automatic. But if power is truly your number one requirement, there is no substitute for a V8, then get a LT1 or an SS.

The difference between the V6 and 2.0T isn't that big, plus the 2.0T is easier to mod.
As far as 1LE goes, I don't think it's worth $10k, even if you plan to track a few times a year, and I would make the argument that it isn't worth it at all for autox. When I was shopping there was a new 2.0T 1LE in my area or a few used non-1LE 2.0T. I bought the used 2.0T for roughly $13k less because I figure that's a lot of seat time and tires for that much money. I do about 15 autox events and try to do 1-2 HPDE's a year.
